SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Veteran TV newsman Don Hewitt suprised the
assembled moguls and stars by calling on CBS, NBC and ABC to end their rivalry
on the evening news and combine forces into one giant news pool to be broadcast
on all three networks simultaneously.
"It's time for the networks to pool their newscasts into one blockbuster,"
the "60 Minutes" executive director told The Post. That could enable the
networks to hold down spiraling costs and end needless duplication.
