LEADERSHIP MID-EAST REALITIES � - www.MiddleEast.Org - Washington - 4/14: Arafat has been paid a very great amount of money for the deals he signed in Washington, Cairo, Sharm, Hebron, et. al. He, his family (the Tawils), and top cronies like Nabil Shaath, Abu Mazen, et. al., now have hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign bank accounts as a result. The Palestinian people have paid a very great price for what Arafat has done. Most importantly he has squandered so much now lost time and support around the world and given the Israelis the time they have needed to consolidate their hold over the Palestinians and to create today's Apartheid situation. At the same time he has allowed the Palestinian areas to quite literally be infected with CIA agents and high-tech survelliance means, this on top of the Israeli military and intelligence occupation. Now, in print in Hebrew, comes something we've suspected and written about for some time. The real purpose of the American involvement with Arafat, and the real reason Clinton got Arafat to actually invite the CIA to play such a role in the occupied territories, was to further bug, control, manipulate, co-opt and deceive the Palestinian leadership itself. This is a scandal in some ways akin to that some decades ago now when it came out that King Hussein was quite literally on the CIA payroll (after which the monies were rechanneled) Many years ago now, long before it reached the pages of the Washington Post and New York Times, MER was highlighting the much greater role of the CIA in Palestinian affairs allowed, even encouraged, by Arafat, Shaath and Rajoub. It never was for the welfare of the Palestinian people. It always was a kind of additional Arafat pay-off to the Americans for all the money, support, guns, and VIP priviledges given to him and cronies in order that they in turn would control their own people. And it all lead to Camp David of last year where Arafat's pen was to be used one more maybe final time on behalf of Israel and the U.S. But Arafat and company were roadblocked at Camp David by their own people. "The Chairman" didn't have the credibility left to sign anything further and sell away still more Palestinian rights. As Arafat then is reported to have said to Clinton: "Do you want to next visit Jerusalem as my guest, or do you want to come to march in my funeral?" -- alluding to what his own people would do to him if he now sold out even more, no matter how much additional money, support, and accolades the Americans and Israelis were going to bestow on him. The Americans, who according to a number of sources bug all the senior Palestinians, did not keep the information to themselves and gave it to Israel.
