As I said five years ago, the ones who should be nervous about this are
people who have something to hide. If you are not in that group, what is the
big deal? Are you ashamed of what you do in your everyday life? Are you
doing something illegal? Then run and hide from the government.
I know it's not that simple, but most people have nothing to worry about. To
watch me 24 hours a day it takes at least 2 other people. That means they
need twice as many watchers as watchees. Ain't gonna happen.
I would invite anyone who is concerned to consult the book Cyberia by
Douglas Rushkoff. In one chapter he visits a large U.S. company in which the
board of directors has installed software to monitor the PCs of every
employee. BUT - the person installing and running this software is a 20-ish
young man who shows Rushkoff what the President of the company is doing on
HIS PC at that moment. In other words, the spyer is being watched by the
spyee.
According to some sources, every TV set manufactured since 1963 has had a
device installed which can be used by whomever has the knowhow to look into
your home (of course only in front of the set) to see what is going on. Now
WHY anyone would want to watch couch potatoes stuffing their face and
pouring down six-packs is beyond me.
