Wow! What a flash. I told you this years ago on this very list.

You bet they knew. And they knew that their best ally was spying on them and
passing military information to Egypt's Generals in middle of a hot war.
Imagine this. The USA is fighting the Mexicans in a hot war. Suddenly their
is an Israeli spy ship in the Gulf of Mexico sending intercepted military
commands to the Mexicans we are fighting IN THE SAME BATTLE.
With friends like these you don't need enemies. The US would be stupid
not to blow that ship out of the water.
The Israelis are not stupid. Kissinger was playing power politics in the
middle of a war. He went on to get rich and famous. The US sailors spying
on his orders got dead. This is why the US kept it secret all these years.

This might be true. But it is certainly not the reason. Israel was in active
tank battles in the Sinai, and preparing to fight Syria in the Golan. They
were in no position at that time to be screwing around with the NSA.
It was pure self defence. That is the only logical reason to pull a stunt
like this. At that time Israel was utterly dependant on the US.

I guess treachery against an ally you have treaties with is ok if you fly
the American flag.
I'm sure the US gov. and the Israeli's will both continue the cover up.
Neither one would benefit from coming clean at this point.
