I will say this we had a lawyer tried by IRS and he made a fool of them
in Court. Now the guy had probably chiseled the IRS out of some big
bucks, but he is a lawyer - right? You expect him to.
This lawyer had a heart of gold; once I told him my son and his little
league were playing the big game and he said - hey I will take the whole
team to Hawaii after the game with their parents - okay? Well of
course such a gift one could not take, but the guy had a lot of money
and wanted to share it.
So on the stand the Chief Witness against him, a former client, told how
much money this man had charged him over the years, etc., etc., etc.,
and then another former client who testified how much he had paid, and
so on.
So when it came time for rebuttal this attorney known to be a little
devil one by one, called his former clients back to testify....
Hey he said, you say I charged you $20,000? The client said "yes" and
then the lawyer said - hey, fellow you never paid me......and it went on
and on and the IRS looked like a bunch of vampires attempting to defraud
and draw blood from the charming, sweet devlishly handsome attorney - he
got off.
But within a month the IRS was back in my office demanding to speak to
certain people who once had been witnesses......that is when I saw them
for what they really are - seeking revenge, and strange - they had to
let the matter drop, for nobody wanted to really testify against this
man even though he was a lawyer.
As I sat there wondering why the IRS was so mad, it occurred to me - did
this lawyer call his own clients back who had testified against him -
and remind them that they had not paid him and to tell the truth on the
stand when he cross examined them?
Did this guy really pull a a good one on this IRS?
True he had charged all that money - but IRS had no proof, the money was
ever paid.
This one Agent was so obnoxious and nasty - I could see why some of the
witnesses enjoyed telling the truth, the WHOLE truth, and nothing but,
the truth.
