Can't speak for anyone else, but when my parents were dogwardens (BTW,
they were equal to policemen, replete with badge and full arrest powers),
they routinely turned away the labs and such that would periodically troll
through, looking for strays to experiment on. That would have
included anyone looking to turn canines into dinner....
The LAW required that impounded strays be held while an advertisement
ran in the local paper for 7 days describing the stray, to give an owner
time to reclaim it. If no owner showed up, the stray was held for
another 7 days, available for general adoption. It was at this time
that the lab shills were turned away.
After the end of the 2nd 7 days, the law REQUIRED that the stray be put
to sleep. I won't go into detail regarding the cruel manner that was
in place when my parents were hired, they instead brought these
unfortunate strays to our own vet and paid out of their own pocket for
these strays to be put to sleep in a humane manner.
Perhaps you have an issue with the fact that these strays were put to
sleep, Saba. If so, your gripe isn't with my parents, who were
heartbroken to have to have any dog put down. But the plain fact of
the matter is that there are too many irresponsible owners out there who
allow their pets to roam and breed indiscriminantly...your issue should be
with these irresponsible owners. At least my parents saw to it that
these unfortunate discarded animals met a humane end.
