O. BOX 663 LYNCHBURG, VA 24505 - 25 years in the cause of freedom - FROM: Kenneth White, President (Residence) 93 Shields Gap Rd. 6/05/01 Roseland, VA 22967 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tel./FAX No.: 804 277-5255 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] TAXPAYERS WARN STATE CANDIDATES ON 'WORLD ORDER' The Virginia Taxpayers Association, citing four recent national "watershed events", said today "no candidate for Virginia state office in November who supports the new world order rather than the Constitution of the United States should be supported by any informed citizen." The VTA charged that Gov. Jim Gilmore, Senators John Warner and George Allen and almost all Virginia congressmen: "(1) backed alleged 'back dues' payment of 582 million not actually owed to the United Nations, which is actively engaged in changing our state and local laws; "(2) supported a 65 million appropriation to rejoin UNESCO, under which state education is globalized, patriotism is destroyed, and Monticello has become a World Heritage site instead of a memorial for the Declaration of Independence author, proclaiming freedom from foreign control; "(3) supported an education bill opposed by more than 50 state and national organizations, bringing more federal control over Virginia education than ever before, and confirming at increased taxpayer cost federal programs that have caused what Charlotte Iserbyt accurately describes in her 700-page massively documented volume as 'The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America'; "(4) assented to government cover-up of the Oklahoma City bombing by the FBI and others, which promoted oppressive 'antiterrorism' legislation and aided reelection of the most law-breaking president in American history." The VTA added, "If our state elected officials, who are closer to the people than federal officials, do not publicly separate themselves from these governmental disasters, citizens have nowhere to turn to remedy an intolerable situation. "Events in the last three weeks have proved that the Virginia Taxpayers Association has been right and Virginia's state Republican leadership has been wrong on all four of these matters. Regarding Oklahoma City, back in May, 1996 we issued a statewide news release pointing to 'glaring cover-up of massive evidence by the FBI at Ruby Ridge, Waco, and Oklahoma City, all of w hich House Judiciary Committee members Bob Goodlatte (R-6th) and Rick Boucher (D-9th) have refused to take any action on.'" Further proof that the UN is a dangerous organization, the VTA said, are "(a) the UN's 'Small Arms Destruction Day' scheduled for July 9, to promote global civilian disarmament, including taking guns away from American citizens; backed by a gun control treaty just approved by the General Assembly May 31; "(b) a scheduled UN global conference on 'Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance' set for late summer in South Africa, which has already devolved into a morass of finger-pointing, name-calling and hurt feelings; and "(c) a new official United Nations University study that will apply political pressure on member nations to implement global governance, including independent UN financing through the Tobin tax and eliminating the veto in the UN Security Council, among other recommendations." The VTA said "It is not sufficiently understood that, rather than taking its cue from Washington, the General Assembly has the unhampered power and duty, as part of the Constitution compact, to direct Virginia federal elected officials on major courses of national action, in protecting the interests of this state." The association commended Rep. Virgil Goode (Ind.-5th) for supporting VTA in voting against the UN and education bills, resisting pressure from President Bush. In another action, the VTA censured Bush "for encouraging law-breaking aliens to cross the Mexican border when he publicly expressed sympathy May 25 for their illegal invasion, according to UPI. Nor has Bush objected to the Mexican government's furnishing kits to illegals planning crossing to violate U. S. immigration laws, as reported in the Austin, Tex. American Statesman May 21." The VTA also urged Congress to reject Bush's request for a one-year extension of most favored nation treatment of China. "Alarming hostile actions against the U. S. by China in the last few months have proved that trade involving a multi-billion deficit for the U. S. does nothing to encourage understanding, democracy and human rights in the Asian nation, contrary to Bush's arguments. And simply because Congress has already voted permanent normal trade relations with China, to take effect after China is admitted to the WTO, is no reason to make a further harmful decision based on a previous bad decision by Congress." The association voted strong opposition to Bush's Free Trade Area of the Americas proposal. "On top of the damaging results of NAFTA in destroying our industrial base, promoting illegal immigration and the underground drug trade, 'one-world' FTAA will further hurt U. S. agriculture to a major degree. Major South American countries want more to sell agricultural products to us than to buy them," the VTA said. "Although Democrat control of the Senate will be harmful to national decisions on a number of issues, it is likely that Democrats will strengthen resistance to FTAA and further benefits to China," the VTA added. (END OF VTA RELEASE) ========================================================================= eco-logic Commentary ---- on-line ---- Friday, June 01, 2001 www.freedom.org The Tide is Turning Against the UN By Tom DeWeese "The United Nations, created in 1945 by the governments of the world, is being put to death by the governments of the world. No doubt there will be some more years of meetings, press releases and America-baiting on the East River. But year after year, stage by stage, the original motives, ethical purposes and hopes for world brotherhood have been so twisted or shoved aside that already the UN and its Charter barely exist at all." Since the vote was taken by United Nations members to oust the United States from the Human Rights Commission, numerous articles have been written condemning the action, but perhaps no article was more important than the one written by A. M. Rosenthal entitled "Agonies of dreams forsaken." Mr. Rosenthal's article is notable because he is a former editor of The New York Times who once covered the UN, but more importantly, because he has been a lifelong supporter and believer in the UN. Rosenthal wrote his column just after the UN Human Rights Commission vote. His agony is apparent in the first paragraph. He said his column was "among the most difficult I have written in a life-time of journalism." A.M. Rosenthal is a lifelong liberal. The UN and its dream of "world brotherhood" were the culmination of the hopes and dreams of the entire liberal movement. The reality that such a utopia cannot exist has now become so obvious that even they can no longer ignore the UN's pre-ordained fate. The liberals thought they could force the world to be good. They thought they could dictate the standards by which we would all have to live. In doing so, they tried to ignore two emerging and essential facts of the last and this new century; individual freedom and national cultural differences. Instead of making us all the same to live in harmony, they succeeded in creating greater misunderstanding and hatreds. People resist-as they should---being stripped of their national identity and history. The result is fear and mistrust. A world devoid of national identity is a world devoid of national leadership. The void that is created is filled by those ambitious enough to fill it. Today's leaders aren't the visionaries of the West who truly hoped for a world of peace. Instead, they are the ruthless dictators of Communist China, Iran, Iraq, and others who seek regional or world domination. The UN has proven to be the perfect vehicle as compliant client-nations give voice to their ravings and deem them legitimate. The United Nations was a dream, but as its Human Rights Commission comes under control of the world's worst offenders of human rights, and as its Narcotics Control Board is manned by the likes of Iran, one of the worst drug-pushing nations on earth, the UN has become the full blown nightmare for freedom-loving individuals and sovereign nations. The UN has become the theater of the absurd that even its most devoted supporters can no longer ignore. There is one solution to bringing peace and sanity back to a world community of responsible and accountable sovereign nations. The United States must leav e this cesspool of corruption. When that occurs, it will be the final chapter of an idea gone terribly wrong and the effort to impose a world government that would suppress liberty and plunge us into a new Dark Age of serfdom and ignorance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tom DeWeese is the publisher/editor of The DeWeese Report, a monthly newsletter on global and national issues.
