It covers an area i'm interested in. Which is sun cycles, or stability, and it's effects over millions of years on planetary evolution. It is generally accepted that Earth is now in the midst of a 10 - 15,000 year warming trend, which is termed 'interglacial' and represents brief occurrences in a much colder earth. It has been demonstrated that even during the warm period (between the cold which yields our ice ages) the earth's temperatures can vary drastically. The dark ages (600 - 1000 AD) were generally much colder periods than the preceeding Bronze Age. From around 800 A.D. to 1200 or 1300 the globe warmed considerably and civilization prospered. Not only was the temperature higher than now in Europe during the twelfth and thirteenth century but the population enjoyed mild wet winters. In the Mediterranean it was moist as well with summer thunderstorms frequently reported. The Little Ice Age is even less well defined than the medieval warm period. Climatologists are generally agreed that, at least for Europe, North America, New Zealand and Greenland, temperatures fell after 1300 to around 1800 or 1850, although with many ups and downs. There was a cold period in the first decade of the fourteenth century, another around 1430 and again in 1560. The end of this period of increasingly harsh temperatures could have been as early as 1700, 1850 or even 1900 for Tasmania. The worst period for most of the world occurred between 1550 and 1700.[178] One reasonable interpretation of the data is that the world has been cooling since around 4500 B.C. with a temporary upswing during the High Middle Ages. http://www.stanford.edu/~moore/Boon_To_Man.html (an excellent read). i think this is caused by fluctuations in the sun, which at times calms considerably and thereby cools down. If you think about this you will agree that a significantly less active sun would not project nearly as much solar radiation and thus our solar system would also be considerably cooler. It could also give a clue as to what happens on Mars to cause erosion, and flowing water. Mars - as well as other planets - could conceivably be covered with heavy ice fields, perhaps the whole planet could become covered with heavy ice, many hundreds of feet deep. We just don't know, but it is conceivable. Thus, does industrial activity and the greenhouse effect have that much effect on these cycles. While they may have some degree, it probably does exercise as much as we might be experiencing from solar activity. Should the sun continue its current high level activity the earth will continue to grow considerably warmer within the before mentioned 10 - 15,000 year warming cycle. On the other hand, which has been demonstrated in the geological evidence, it could just as suddenly become less active, causing all greenhouse predictions to become redundant.
