The issue with the blood supply has been addressed before. The Britlanders' and
their one-time tourists have been excluded from donating blood for quite a while. I
voiced this issue in several forums considering we, Americans, are constantly allied
and aligned with the Britlanders in various military operations. The potential
collaboration includes shared dining facilities and transfusions in combat theatres.
I personally contacted the ARC about the military personnel and their dependents
having exposure to local (European) meats and the effects of eating same. My
impression was they thought all the GIs ate exclusively on the installations or in
their quarters, dining on food imported from the U.S. Ooops. I ate as much off-
base as I did on.
Thanks for posting this article as I can see someone listened to me and whoever else
brought this issue to light. The further question is how involved do we, Americans,
want to be in European family squabbles given I and others, as veterans, may no
longer be able to support the blood donation efforts at home due to the imperialist
designs of our "leaders". This sets up the military as a separate class of people
in the society, exposed to various environmental factors (BSE/vCJD, anthrax shots,
Gulf War syndrome, and other little warps and wrinkles) that may render them useless
in the long run. And this includes ALL elements of the uniformed services and may
even affect civilian personnel who spent time "over there".
This brings to mind the attitude of Mad Maddy Albright who conveyed to Colin Powell
(or as I read) that the military was merely a tool, a puppet force to be used at
will in the grand imperial design. Such a nice personal observation from someone
whose family literally ran from European adversity in the 40ies. I think the Serbs
still have a bomb from a coupla years ago in the town whose people saved her way
back then.
