Even eliminating sexism entirely, a very difficult job in itself, will not eliminate rape because rape is only partly about sexism. Rape is primarily about power (http://www.prisoners.com/license.html). It transcends gender (http://www.prisoners.com/rapesex.html). It even transcends species. Dolphins (http://www.whalewatch.co.nz/_disc3/0000017b.htm) do it. Chimps (http://www.harvard-magazine.com/issues/jf97/right.chimp.html) do it. And they�re not the only ones. It�s part of life the way bad weather is part of life. It happens sometimes and when it does, either you�re prepared to deal with it or you are not. The only certain prevention of rape happens in person, on the spot, and is the work of the intended victim and/or of persons nearby at the time. Almost always it requires force or the credible threat of force. Appealing to the rapist�s better nature doesn�t work. He doesn�t have one. What �gun control� is really about is the empowerment of rapists. Is this what the left really wants to do, to empower rapists? Don�t ask me. Ask a leftist. Eleven minutes is plenty enough time to get raped at least once, twice if there�s two of them. What the proponents of gun control are really advocating is that if it happens to you, you may as well just �lie back and enjoy it,� because you wont have any choice. But then, not having any choice is what rape is all about in the first place, isn�t it? Have you ever been raped? Do you have any idea what it feels like? Hopefully not yet. Hopefully not ever. But roughly one out of four women, and one out of ten men, do know what it feels like, exactly what it feels like, from their own personal experience. When you stop and think about it, those aren�t very good odds at all. So don�t believe for a minute that it can�t happen to you.
