Gary Condit's apartment, give him a lie-detector test and get samples of his DNA for clues to the disappearance of Washington intern Chandra Levy, the police chief said on Tuesday. Eleven weeks after the 24-year-old Californian was last seen, Washington Police Chief Charles Ramsey told reporters he planned to take Condit up on his offer of assistance in the high-profile case. Referring to an offer by Condit's lawyer on Monday ''relative to the collection of DNA samples, search of the apartment and taking a polygraph examination,'' Ramsey told reporters, ``We want to take him up on that offer.'' Ramsey said police were working with Condit's attorney, Abbe Lowell, to arrange dates, times and locations, and added that these arrangements should be made ``in a day or two.'' Condit, a 53-year-old married father of two, is not considered a suspect by police in the Levy case, but has been interviewed three times by police. In the two early interviews, he reportedly characterized Levy as his friend; in a late Friday interview, the Washington Post and others reported that Condit told police the two had a romantic relationship. Lowell said late on Monday that the Democratic congressman from central California would comply fully with the investigation into Levy's disappearance, including allowing the apartment search, providing phone records and submitting to a DNA test.
