-Caveat Lector- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Nalty" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2001 2:25 PM Subject: Condit Rule #4: Never bring ID to my apartment We happened to be in Washington over the weekend, and we noted another interesting detail, apparently unreported elsewhere, on Friday's 11 o'clock news on WUSA-TV. A reporter for the station, who said he had interviewed Chandra's aunt Linda Zamsky, quoted her as saying that one of the rules Condit imposed on his relationship with the intern was that she was not to bring identification when she visited his apartment. As everyone knows, Chandra's ID was found in her apartment. One more intriguing bit. Philadelphia's KYW Newsradio yesterday carried the following report on its Web site: "CBS is reporting that Chandra Levy told a friend before her disappearance that she had made a doctor's appointment. When pressed on what the appointment was for, Levy said she might be pregnant." The story does not, however, seem to appear anywhere on the CBS News Web site. #### http://www.opinionjournal.com/best/ BEST OF THE WEB BY JAMES TARANTO Tuesday, July 10, 2001 2:21 p.m. EDT You Heard It Here First On Friday we suggested that Rep. Gary Condit invite police to search his Washington apartment. Yesterday, through his lawyer, Abbe Lowell, Condit did just that, and today District of Columbia police said they'd take him up on the offer. Lowell also volunteered to provide a sample of the congressman's DNA, though the usefulness of that at this point seems doubtful, given the lack of physical evidence in Chandra Levy's disappearance. Lowell refuses, however, to agree to the Levy family's demand that his client take a polygraph test. The "lie detector" is something of a red herring; the science behind polygraphs is dubious and results are seldom admissible in court. We're guessing what the Levy family is really after is to have Condit submit to questioning by their lawyer--and it's not surprising Condit would resist. Appearing on CNN's "Larry King Live" last night, the Levys' lawyer, Billy Martin, said Condit lied to Chandra's mother, Susan, when she called him on May 1 or 2 (Chandra was last seen April 30): They called Congressman Condit at his office, spoke to Congressman Condit, and a very deep and moving question was asked by Sue Levy as she desperately tried to find her daughter. "Congressman Condit, do you know where my daughter is? And more importantly, have you had an affair or were you having an affair with her?" Larry, he lied. He misrepresented his relationship. He told her no. On yesterday's "Special Report With Brit Hume," Fox News's Rita Cosby, who's been leading the pack in reporting the Condit story, offered this report of an early conversation between Condit and Mrs. Levy: A Levy relative tells Fox News that in a conversation on May 3 or May 4, before Susan Levy even suspected Chandra was missing, Mrs. Levy called Condit, wondering if her daughter was at his apartment or went out of town for a few days. The relative says the answer Mrs. Levy got stunned and alarmed her. She asked, quote, "Do you have any idea where she is?" Condit responded, "No, I don't know where she's at, but I'll put up a $10,000 reward." There is some discrepancy between these two accounts. If the call Martin describes took place on May 1 or 2, then Mrs. Levy must have at least suspected by May 3 or 4 that Chandra was missing. It may be that both accounts refer to the same phone conversation and one of them got the date wrong. ABC News reports stewardess Anne Marie Smith is "headed to Washington" to talk to federal prosecutors who are undertaking a "preliminary investigation" into whether Condit obstructed justice by asking Smith to sign an affidavit falsely denying their affair. On the lighter side, the Toronto Star reports that Condit "recently hurled himself into a mosh pit at a Pearl Jam rock concert," which means he has something in common with Alan Keyes. And the Washington Post's Lloyd Grove disputes Chandra's view that Condit resembles Harrison Ford. Grove thinks the troubled congressman has a stronger resemblance to William H. Macy, perhaps best known for his role as the bumbling murderer Jerry Lundergaard in the 1996 black comedy "Fargo." ======================================================= Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh, YHVH, TZEVAOT FROM THE DESK OF: *Michael Spitzer* <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> The Best Way To Destroy Enemies Is To Change Them To Friends ======================================================= <A HREF="http://www.ctrl.org/">www.ctrl.org</A> DECLARATION & DISCLAIMER ========== CTRL is a discussion & informational exchange list.
