GlaxoSmithKline, the British Pharmaceutical giant has acknowledged that the

use of prescribed anti-depressants such as Prozac and Seroxat may increase the

likelihood of suicide in the initial few weeks of their use. The company has

complied with a request from the Medicines Control Agency to issue a warning

to doctors and patients with packets of the drug. The move comes after a US

court awarded $6.4m compensation to the family of Donald Schnell, who

committed suicide after killing his wife, daughter and grandchild, while taking

Seroxat. GSK is planning to appeal against the verdict and say the decision to

print a warning is unrelated to the case. (Daily Mail)
