Here is how it stands. Last night the local Sheriff, Tim Evinger (who supports the farmers) ordered the Feds to depart the area, which they did, he also asked the citizens present, around 60 or so, to move to city property nearby. After the law enforcement presence left the area the headgates were re-opened. This morning, around 6:00 am local time, the Feds returned and took possession of the gates once again and had them closed. City, State, and County law enforcement are also present but it appears that they are not intervening. The last report was that there are 200 plus citizens at the scene, with more coming. There is an urgent call for people to come if you can, and call if you cannot come. Call the Governor's office, Governer Kitzhaber at the citizen 24 hour line - 1-503-4582 or fax at 1-503-378-4863. The number for Kathy VanTuyl (cell phone) is - 1-541-601-1746 Some strange things about this situation are that the so-called endangered sucker fish had at one time in the past been the target for destruction by the Federal Government, and the salmon they are "protecting" you can buy from your supermarket shelves! Another interesting tidbit is this. The Klamath Irrigation System is a system of reservoirs that were built in the 1930's by the Federal Government for irrigation purposes, and PAID FOR BY THE FARMERS!! These fish are NOT NATIVE to these reservoirs, which are man made. If you cannot be there in person, please call or fax Governor Kitzhaber and ask him to support and defend his own citizens. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that this is exactly what is happening to the population of the Klamath Falls farming community. Reports from the site indicate that, minute by minute, the throng of ordinary citizens grows to protest this siege by the very government that is sworn to defend the people from just such abuse. The American flag that was placed on the dam, upside down in the universal signal of distress, has been removed at the request of the protesters as of noon today. This is a peaceful demonstration, not an armed camp. The growing presence of wives and children should prove that, but the Feds have not been known for letting that stop them provoke or start deadly violence in the past. We can only pray that cool heads and integrity are present on both sides in this situation. People continue to come into the area in small groups, with the total now nearing 100. There is an atmosphere of determination and growing anger. There is no sign of surrender. Could this be the new Concord? Could this be the start of the real second American Revolution?
