The Dying American City

Caucasians are now minority citizens in close to half of America's 100 biggest cities,
if you believe figures from the 2000 census. Out of a population of 58.4 million in
the 100 largest cities, only 43 out of every 100 people are Caucasian. A decade ago
that figure was 52 out of 100. Considering the amount of civil disobedience that the
Y2K census generated, the statistics are probably gloomier.
The implications of turning our cities over to a permanent underclass are staggering.
Think Cincinnati written large, across the breadth of the United States. Black on
white crime statistics are already horrific: Blacks are 55 times more likely to attack
a white than vice versa and statistics for other crimes (rape, robbery, murder, etc)
are even worse. Middle class blacks are not exempt; even Je$$e Ja�k$on stated not too
long ago that if he heard footsteps behind him on a dark city street and they turned
out to belong to a white, he felt relief.
Statistics for Hispanics are harder to come by, given the dishonesty with which
they�re treated by federal bean-counters. A Hispanic crime victim is counted as a
minority; A Hispanic criminal is counted as Caucasian.
Truly, it�s become an act of criminal insanity to be unarmed in urban America. Of
course, that�s where you�re most likely to be unarmed via State decree. Before long,
it will be an act of criminal insanity to even live in the confines of any large urban
center.
Most Americans are well aware of these facts. They are discussed (if at all) in hushed
voices, speaking code words. To call a spade a spade is not allowed and will probably
result in forced reeducation in one of the many corporate or college sensitivity
training classes, if not termination from your job or expulsion from school.
One implication not much discussed is how this self-perpetuating cycle of white flight
leads to increased power and size for the State. In fact, the State in all its many
forms has encouraged white flight from our cities and the growth of an underclass
through welfare and immigration policies.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and President Lyndon Johnson�s Great Society programs,
including Medicare, were on their surface, designed to alleviate economic distress
among blacks and tangentially others supposedly disadvantaged in society. Underneath,
they have had far greater impact on our culture and especially on our cities. Every
executive branch and every Congress has expanded these programs and added new ones, to
the point where the State is now literally the Leviathan.
Every government welfare program has had the effect of creating State clients who in
clamoring for taxpayer-funded services create the demand for more services and more
State bureaucrats to administer the services. The rising birthrate of State-supported
members of the underclass is cause for great joy from the State. More clients
fostering more State bureaucrats who in turn create more programs which in turn breed
more clients�ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
Immigration policies encourage admission into the underclass. In the dim past it was
not unusual for immigrants who went on welfare to be deported. In the period from 1911
through 1938, 21,675 immigrants were deported for becoming public charges. From the
beginning of the 1940s through the end of the seventies, only a scant 400 or so of the
millions of immigrants on welfare were so treated.
Look back in time to the 1965 Immigration Act, which started us on our current
merry-go-round of mass immigration. Quoting Immigration Subcommittee chairman Senator
Edward Kennedy:
"First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the
proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same ...
Secondly, the ethnic mix will not be upset . . . Contrary to the charges in some
quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or
area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia . . ."
Senator Kennedy is of course well-known for his record of truthful and honest dealings
with citizens to this very day. Just ask Mary Jo Kopeckne.
So our once proud cities grow to the bursting point, filled with angry, bitter,
hate-filled eaters of taxes, rather than the productive citizens of a free republic
they once boasted.
Unfortunately, don�t look for things to get better. Expect more Cincinnati-style
riots, increasing in ferocity, which will have the effect of worsening the sad
demographic situation our cities find themselves in. And as the demographics of our
cities worsen, look for a new problem as well: Racial strife between minority
citizens. Hispanic vs Black political battles in California are the forerunner of
this, but it won�t stop there.
Current immigration policies will only exacerbate our problems. The vast majority of
immigrants now admitted to our shores no longer assimilate into the general culture as
they did in years past. Instead they strain an already overburdened welfare and
education infrastructure and drain tax dollars from the steadily shrinking
middle-class.
The proverbial melting pot is now a tossed salad. The chefs de cuisine of immigration
and welfare policy prefer it that way.
