Second Roger Clinton Lawyer Won't Dispute Coke Report
A second attorney for former first brother Roger Clinton declined Friday to
challenge a report that Clinton had checked himself into an Arizona drug
rehab center to battle a seven-year-long habit of "chronic cocaine abuse."
Bart Williams, who is currently representing Clinton before a White Plains,
New York grand jury probing Pardongate, wouldn't dispute the National
Enquirer report, telling the Washington Post's Lloyd Grove:
"I don't want to confirm or deny it. I'm just not going to comment on it."
In January, Clinton received a pardon from his brother based on two
previous convictions for cocaine possession and distribution. Neither the
ex-president nor his wife, former first lady Hillary Clinton, have returned
calls seeking comment about whether Roger used the drug while he visited
them in the White House.
On Wednesday, Los Angeles attorney Mark Geragos won a bid to have Hermosa
Beach California prosecutors drop drunk driving charges against Roger,
though a police tape recording of his Feb. 17 arrest shows him admitting
that he'd consumed "probably four or five beers" and acknowledging that he
couldn't pass a police sobriety test.
Clinton, who didn't show up for his sentencing, pleaded guilty instead to a
charge of reckless driving.
Like Williams, Geragos told the New York Daily News that he would neither
confirm nor deny the Enquirer cocaine story.
New York attorney Ed Hayes, whose client Garland Lincecum says he paid
Clinton's business partners $235,000 in exchange for the promise of a
presidential pardon, told NewsMax.com Friday that news of Clinton's cocaine
relapse didn't surprise him.
"He has a long history of drug abuse," said Hayes. "Roger Clinton is a
very, very pathetic character."
