Federal agents target Florida homes

MIAMI, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Federal agents investigating the
terrorist
attacks in New York and Washington focused Wednesday on south
Florida and a
33-year-old man who listed his address as Coral Springs, Fla., near
Fort
Lauderdale.

Search warrants were served in as many as four locations in south
Florida,
including the residence of Muhammed Atta, whose name was found on
the
manifest of one of the doomed planes. Two other men who lived at
the address
may have been involved in the attack.

Neighbors said agents searched inside the Coral Springs apartment
for
three hours overnight.

Investigators also visited a home in Venice, Fla., where agents
believed
he had moved after leaving Coral Springs. The landlord said Atta
and another
man who stayed there were attending a flight school at a nearby
airport. Two
instructors at the flight school also were interviewed, WPLG-TV
news said in
Miami.

Agents also were looking for two cars, including a red 1989
Pontiac Gran
Prix, believed to belong to Atta.

WSVN-TV in Miami quoted sources in the Hollywood, Fla., police
department
as saying they helped FBI agents search homes in Hollywood and
Davie, Fla.

The subjects' names were on the passenger manifests of planes that
crashed
into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon near
Washington and in
a field in western Pennsylvania. Atta's name was also believed to
be on one
of the manifests.

Anthony Amos, who works at a Hollywood restaurant, said agents had
shown
him pictures of men who may be suspects.

"I identified one of the guys," he said.

He said one of them was in the restaurant Friday and refused to
pay. Amos
said the man said he had enough money to pay because he was a
pilot, but
refused. It was not clear whether the man or another man with him
was Atta.

Another investigation was at Daytona Beach, Fla., involved a
student at
Embry Riddle flight school with a car that contained a picture of
terrorist
Osami bin Laden. The car has been impounded, but there has been no
arrest.
