-Caveat Lector- Just now on WCBS-TV they had someone by the name of Dan Abrahamson (not sure if he is a city official, as he said he went to city hall after evacuating the WTC), and the reporters asked him about reports that people who were evacuating the WTC were told to stay put. Abrahamson confirmed it, he said he didn't know who it was who said it, according to him it was an 'announcement', so it almost sounded like it was announced over loudspeakers in the building. This was Tower Two, which hadn't been hit yet; Abrahamson said he and his boss made it down to the 44th floor, which is where the elevators stopped so that people could change elevators to go to other floors (in other words, for anyone not familiar with really large skyscrapers, elevators rarely run the full length of the building; rather one gets elevators in the lobby which only go up to a certain level; one then has to exit and enter another set of elevators to go further)... It wasn't clear whether Abrahamson and his boss were walking down the stairwell or taking the elevator, but I suspect the latter because the building hadn't been hit yet, and they were on the 61st floor. He said that immediately after seeing Tower One hit, that they decided to leave to go outside and 'see what was going on'. As they were in the process of leaving, the announcement was made that everyone should stay in their offices or return to their offices if they'd already left. The announcement proclaimed that the disaster next door was just 'an accident', and there was no reason to leave Tower Two. Abrahamson stated that he decided to ignore the advice/command and he continued to leave (not sure if he walked down at that point, or got an elevator and was lucky enough to have gotten to the ground floor before the 2nd plane hit)...meanwhile his boss decided to go back up to their offices, and pushed the button to get an 'up' elevator... according to Abrahamson, his boss was still waiting for an elevator when the 2nd plane hit their building, and they felt the whole building shake, and the boss then heard all the elevators (which presumably had people in them) crashing to the lower level, as their cables had been severed. Apparently this boss then decided it would be better to get out of the building, so he went down the stairwell...
