Bin Laden: 'It wasn't me' - and it may be true

Funny, I seem to remember this same guy initially getting blamed for
the OKC bombing.

But it wasn't him.

Now, after a week of hurling accusations, Feds admit they have
absolutely nothing solid linking bin Laden to the WTC and Pentagon
devastation.

It's deja vu all over again.

Obviously, the gutter slime of the BushMob needed a war to salvage
their disaster-bound, doomed Titanic of an Administration.

Bin Laden Denies Role In Attack - He And Family Go Into Hiding

By Luke Harding and Rory McCarthy in Islamabad
Brian Whitaker and Richard Norton-Taylor

The Guardian - London
9-17-1

Osama bin Laden has abandoned his main base near Kandahar in fear of
attack by the US and has moved to an undisclosed location in the
mountains, sources in the Afghan city said last night.

The Saudi-born dissident's large family, together with his Arab
followers, has also left the city, the sources added. His four wives
and many children have taken refuge in the countryside, according to
reports.

Bin Laden and his men have apparently moved to one of their many
hideouts in a remote part of the country. His decision to vacate the
southern Afghan city was not only for his personal security, but to
reduce the chances of civilian casualties in case of an attack, his
aides said.

In a statement faxed to the pro-Taliban Afghan Islamic Press (AIP)
agency, Bin Laden yesterday denied having anything to do with last
week's attacks in New York and Washington. "I am residing in
Afghanistan. I have taken an oath of allegiance [to the Taliban's
spiritual leader, Mullah Mohammad Omar] which does not allow me to do
such things from Afghanistan," he claimed.

"We have been blamed in the past, but we were not involved," he said.
The fax, written in Arabic, was sent from a secret location, AIP said.

In the past, Bin Laden has shifted base whenever there has been any
threat of American retaliation, most recently last October after the
attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, in which 17 sailors were killed.

He has several main bases inside Afghanistan - a large camp next to
Kandahar airport, where several hundred of his Arab followers live, a
smaller base in the Oruzgan mountains and a third camp near the south-
eastern city of Jalalabad, cut into a rockface.

But he is also believed to have a network of smaller hideouts, many
of which were used by the mojahedin in the 1980s in their guerrilla
war against Soviet troops. Afghanistan is a large country with
mountains, deserts and remote valleys.

One source said that Bin Laden had the choice of many isolated and
secure sanctuaries, adding: "There are plenty of places to hide."

Locating him is only one problem that the Bush administration faces.
The US vice-president, Dick Cheney, said yesterday that he had "no
doubt" that Bin Laden was the "prime suspect", but proving that he
had directly instigated or funded last week's attacks on the US was
likely to be
another matter.

Although no evidence linking Bin Laden to the attacks has been
disclosed, reports yesterday linked one of the suspected hijackers to
the suicide bomb attack on USS Cole.

Newsweek and the Los Angeles Times said that Khalid al-Midhar, who
died in the crash at the Pentagon, had earlier been captured by a
surveillance video meeting one of the Cole suspects in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia.

But despite strong suspicions that Bin Laden was behind the attack on
the warship in Aden, no specific evidence of his role has emerged.
One of the most tantalising pointers is that Abdul al-Muhsin al-
Taifi, named as one of the two suicide bombers in Yemen, was wanted
for questioning about the 1998 bombing of the American embassy in
Nairobi, for which Bin Laden has also been blamed.

British intelligence sources say that Bin Laden's sympathisers have
no formal structure, making it extremely difficult to penetrate his
al-Qaida organisation or to find hard evidence against it.

"It is an informal network which crosses international boundaries",
one source said. The members do not see themselves as a part of a
group and, unlike the IRA and other terrorist groups, they do not
operate in cells.

Rather they are a collection of individuals "inspired" by Bin Laden,
the intelligence sources added.

NY, DC attacks likely inside job, as Reichstag fire was ! - Moscow
Times

-- "There is, however, one analogy that does not seem to have
occurred to anyone: the burning of the Reichstag." -- Moscow Times

Uh... That very analogy SURE as hell occurred to us, as our readers
know!

As for the rest of this article? It's excellent: we couldn't have put
it better ourselves.

Bin Laden? Better Be Sure
By Boris Kagarlitsky

The terrorist attack on New York has already been compared to Pearl
Harbor and the loss of the Kursk submarine. Mikhail Gorbachev likened
it to Chernobyl, which is probably a very accurate analogy in terms
of the shock and ignominy experienced by the U.S. administration. In
both cases, we saw incompetence and helplessness initially, followed
by desperate attempts at official face-saving.

There is, however, one analogy that does not seem to have occurred to
anyone: the burning of the Reichstag. The anti-Arab and anti-Moslem
hysteria that has followed around the globe in the wake of the
catastrophe simply calls out for comparison with the events of the
1930s. The U.S. authorities immediately started the search for the
guilty among Arabs, Osama bin Laden cropped up almost immediately as
prime suspect and alternative versions have barely been entertained.

In the minutes immediately following the explosions, it seems there
was no doubt whatsoever regarding the "Arab" source of the attacks.
However, the more evidence and arguments adduced in support of
the "Arab version," the more shaky it seems to become. In a
television appearance immediately after the explosions, the well-
known pundit Vyacheslav Nikonov noted that the guilty would
undoubtedly be found, and if not, they would be "nominated," adding
cynically: "It would be in Russia's interest if the Taliban and bin
Laden were nominated."

To give him his due, Alexander Gordon -- who spoke on two TV
programs -- pointed out that it could be far-right militia groups
(such as those behind the Oklahoma City bombing) and not Islamic
terrorists at all. Analysts have emphasised how easy it would be to
carry out each individual element of the terrorist operation:
smuggling knives aboard a plane, breaking into the cockpit, etc.
However to coordinate all these actions in different parts of the
country without making a single serious blunder is devilishly hard.

The crime committed on Sept. 11 must have required enormous efforts
in management, control and logistics. The strength of Islamic
terrorism is in the simplicity of organization and its
unpredictability. All groups operate autonomously. Even the
destruction of command centers doesn't have a major impact, insofar
as every one of Allah's warriors is capable of acting on his own. The
attacks on New York and Washington were very carefully coordinated,
the minutest details were thoroughly thought through, and at no stage
were there serious lapses.

It would appear that the operation was organized and carried out by
people who had free passage around the country and were considered to
be above suspicion. If they are professionals, they did not acquire
their experience in underground terrorist groups. It cannot be
excluded that the attacks were organized by forces within the United
States, and this would have to be people with considerable military
experience.

Why is it that no seems even to consider a conspiracy by far-right
groups as a possibility? The masterminds could easily have covertly
used people of Arab nationality to carry out the attacks.

Whoever it is behind the Washington and New York attacks, in Russia
and Israel they have already played a role comparable to the burning
of the Reichstag. Far-right politicians -- "upholders of the values
of western civilisation" -- have already spoken out calling for
revenge. Over and over, one and the same thing is repeated: "Moslems
are subhuman barbarians and you cannot conduct negotiations with
them. They are not like us, and thus our criteria of democracy and
human rights do not apply to them." "No need to fear unpopular
measures," some say. "No need to limit ourselves to democratic
conventions," others chime in.

At a minimum they are after: arrests without warrants, mass
deportations and wide-scale searches. Already reports are coming from
the United States of racist attacks against Islamic communities. It
is clear that mass repressions will lead to mass resistance. That is
how you make enemies. Do those who are trying to scare us with the
Moslem threat really not understand that? They understand it full
well. They simple believe that a final solution is possible -- if not
globally, then at least on a more limited territory. As a maximum,
they are baying for ethnic cleansing and genocide.

FIB WAS tracking man linked to hijackings BEFORE 9.11! - They LIED!

WHAT?! So... The "FIB" has actually been LYING, when they repeatedly
maintained -- as have ALL relevant federal sectors and agencies --
they were completely and totally blind-sided by last Tuesday's so-
called "terrorist" attacks in NYC and D.C.?

Well, apparently they WERE fibbing, as it's now revealed that two
weeks ago, they were right on the tail of someone they NOW have in
custody, whom they claim was for certain closely connected to some of
the hijackers!

WOW!

SO... No warnings, no prior knowledge of any kind, eh, Feds?

FBI tracked man in custody 2 weeks before attacks

September 18, 2001 Posted: 3:12 PM EDT (1952 GMT)
http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/09/18/inv.investigation.terrorism/

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Two weeks before the terrorist attacks in New
York City and Washington, D.C., FBI agents were at a flight school in
Oklahoma asking questions about a man now suspected of having a link
to those attacks, sources said.

The agents, sources said, were interested in Zacarias Moussaoui, who
was arrested August 17 in Minnesota on an alleged passport violation.
Moussaoui was in custody at the time of last week's attacks -- being
held as a material witness -- but authorities are investigating
whether he and others were part of a broader plot to hijack and crash
even more jets.

The disclosure came as at least four people are being held as
material witnesses into the U.S. investigation into the September 11
terrorist attacks.

More than 50 people are in government custody, held either as
material witnesses to the investigation or on possible immigration
violations. They are all being questioned about the attacks, the FBI
said, and their level of cooperation has varied. Material witnesses
are people who are not necessarily considered suspects but are
believed to have valuable information and may pose a flight risk.

Almost 200 other people are being sought for questioning in the case.

Jetliner training in Oklahoma

The fact that FBI agents were at the Airman Flight School in Norman,
Oklahoma, two weeks before any attacks would seem to contradict the
agency's assertion that it was not aware of any connection between
aviation schools and suspected terrorists.

"There were no warning signs that I'm aware of that would indicate
this type of operation in the country," FBI Director Robert Mueller
said Monday.

In Oklahoma, Moussaoui had apparently raised suspicious because he
sought training in flying commercial jets despite having a lack of
experience.

The possibility that pilots were being trained for terrorist plots
was revealed earlier this year during testimony at the trial of four
men charged with the 1998 bombings of American embassies in Africa.
U.S. prosecutors believe Osama bin Laden -- described as the "prime
suspect" in the hijackings -- was behind that plot as well. He, in
fact, was indicted for the 1998 bombings.

U.S. investigators also believe that two of the dead World Trade
Center hijackers had toured the Oklahoma facility, seeking flight
training. Those two hijackers later enrolled in a Florida aviation
school.

In other developments in the investigation: the hijackers left behind
materials suggesting they had back-up plans for their mission of
terrorism, according to government sources. No details about the
plans were given.

The material was said to have been confiscated from one or more
automobiles left at the airports where the hijackers began their
suicide flights. It was not immediately known whether those
automobiles included the car at Logan International Airport in Boston
registered to Mohammed Atta, who was on the first jetliner that
struck the World Trade Center.
