Have a picture of my brother in law with Glen Miller and this was the
last picture taken of him while they were in England; presume it was at
what I called High Wycombe - Miller flew off into the night when he had
been warned not to go. The weather was horrible and no experienced
pilot would have left under these conditions.
They are standing against a brick wall - New York Times did a story on
this back in the late 80 period - but the one thing my brother in law
said, and others in military often said - hey we had a war to fight, he
was just another trumpet player.
The music makers - send them off to war with a song in their heart and
on their lips....disgusting......so Irving Berlin got special treatment
in the service for writing music to die by.
Glenn Miller was not a spy; he was hawking his music more than the war,
and sure as hell was no hero. He died because like a few other music
makers - including the late son of Ozzie and Harriet - the weather was
bad, and so many music makers fall from the skies higher on snow, than
on clouds.
