Women
in Islam
Islam's attitude
toward woman is a dream come true for anyone who is interested
in equal
rights and feminism - really interested, not just because of a "cool
feminist"
fad. Take an open-minded look at some of the articles on
RIGHTS
and you'll see what I mean. Please do not confuse
androcentric behaviour
of men with the real teachings of Islam. That's like blaming the car
for
the irresponsibility of a driver.
Your personal
benefit from this will depend on whether you want to find something
good
in Islam or if you want to retain a "Don't bother me with facts; I'm
happy with my stereotypes." attitude. It will also depend on what
your
definition of women's right is because what one person might
conceive as
a form of freedom, may not be freedom at all but rather, subtle
oppression.
The following
is the lyrics to a song by one of the hottest stars in the music
scene today - Alanis Morisette. She addresses many controversial
issues that
affect the modern American woman of today but I like this one the
best.
Alanis pretty much sums up what, too many women, Non-Muslim
women who feel
they have it alot better off than Muslims and Muslims women who
covet the
"liberty" of Non-Muslim women, have to go through.

Right Through
You
Wait a minute,
man
You mispronounced
my name
You didn't
wait for all the information
Before you
turned me away
Wait a minute,
sir
You kind of
hurt my feelings
You see me
as a sweet back-loaded puppet
And you've
got a meal ticket taste
I
see right through you
I know right
through you
I feel right
through you
I walk right
through you
You
took me for a joke
You took me
for a child
You took a
long hard look at my ass
And then played
golf for a while
You shake
is like a fish
You pat me
on the head
You took me
out to wine dine 69 me
But didn't
hear a damn word I said
Are you offended?
I am. The words are crude, but not nearly as crude as reality itself.
There are many
many Western Non-Muslim women who are modest. We respect
and embrace them!
By saying all this, I don't mean to impose my beliefs on you but
rather, my point is - don't judge us Muslim women by your
standards because your
standards may not necessarily be the best. Islam is a choice for
millions
of American and European women - a choice, not an obligation!
We are happy
and at peace.
Look up gender
politics and history and you'll see that less than a century ago, a
western
woman was owned by her husband and therefore, had no legal
rights or status
as a human being or citizen. She had no right to divorce her
husband either. Islam made alimony, inheritance rights, divorce
rights etc. compulsory
and available for us women more than 1400 yrs ago. Gloria
Steinem has been
put on a pedestal for her contribution to the women's suffrage
movement
but the same woman made her body public property by posing
nude for Playboy!
Modern societies label Islam as barbaric and primitive but ironically,
Islam is far ahead.
This is the
main reason why I named my homepage. Islam - The Modern
Religion.
It's far ahead of our time and will always be relevant as the world
continues
to evolve.
4 out of 5
converts to Islam are women - DON'T YOU WANT TO FIND OUT
WHY?
