Unfortunately, the church took the Horned God and used him as the model for their "Satan", the embodiment of all that is evil. There are several reasons for this, including (but not limited to): 1. persecution of pagans/witches for worshipping "Satan"; 2. elimination of pagans/witches in order to rob them of land and any material wealth; 3. control of, and power over, people through fear. If you were a pagan/witch, there was the fear of being killed for "worshipping Satan". If you were a member of the church, you were taught to abide by church rule in fear of God's wrath and being sent off to deal with "Satan". You were also led to believe that you should be fearful of those who supposedly worshipped him. And to think people are still fool enough to believe the whole Satan thing after all this time.....
