The Al-Qaeda are mostly from Arabic countries, as UBL and his
colonels are Saudi, Egyptian, and the like.

This is a telling statement. But the people he is tricking are the
allied belligerents. There are many ways to achieve goals and
considering the Arabs have been around under various forms of
government for aeons, they have learned that the deserts change
depending upon the direction and strength of the wind. Thus, one
only needs to seek shelter for as long as the wind continues to blow;
once it stops, then it is time to go out and survey the situation.
Go see *Laurence of Arabia* (again).

When confronting cultures that have existed for aeons, they have the
benefit of thinking in long periods of time rather than in terms of
the next election cycle. As the saying has been, perhaps in
reference to the USSR, "they play chess, we play poker". I recall
learning about biology with the saying "Kings Play Chess On Fine
Grain Sand" (Kingdom, Phylum, ... et cetera). This is a cultural
difference that has yet to be overcome. Camels, tents, tea, oases,
sand, wind ... for how many thousands of years?

UBL has been organising for a long time. If I read my biography on
him (*UBL*, Yossef Bodansky, 1999, 2001), he was one of those behind
the debacle in Somalia (the first time around). But, I don't see any
more information on the tapes (from what I've seen) that makes him
any more knowledgeable than any of us who've seen TV, croozed the I-
Net, or read the newspapers. They portray him as some type of "Alley
Oop", living in caves and perhaps squatting behind a Bush (!).
However, who can make a video tape without being able to watch one?
I think he's up on the news almost as much as we are. As far as
"kamikaze" underlings, even the Japanese knew they weren't coming
back so what's new? He can make all kinds of presentations and all
kinds of people can interpret all kinds of things from them. He's
still talking in generalities. A hijacker is an Islamist soldier.
Period. Missions to accomplish. Miles to go until he rests.

It all hinges on how strongly one believes. UBL is a war vet; he's
applying the first rule of management and supervision: don't ask
your followers to do anything you haven't or won't do. That's a
little different than what we got over here.
