Afghans to use smaller pebbles for stonings Afghanistan's new rulers claim they are easing up on punishments for criminals - by stoning people with smaller pebbles. Publicly hanged criminals will also be cut down from gibbet after 15 minutes rather than four days. Afghanistan's government says it will still impose Sharia Islamic law but apply it less harshly than under the Taliban. A senior judge says public executions and amputations will continue, but justice will be applied fairly and with mercy, reports Australia's ABC News Online. Judge Ahamat Ullha Zarif says publicly hanged bodies will come down after 15 minutes, not four days, and adulterers will be stoned to death with smaller stones, giving them a chance to run away.
