-Caveat Lector- Greenpeace isn't very forthcoming with their funding. The American Institute of Philanthropy, a watchdog group (www.charitywatch.org), gave Greenpeace Inc. a grade of D (on the American grading scale, where A+ is the best), and they noted that only about half the money sent to them is actually spent on programs (the rest probably makes up salaries and rent for their luscious office space).
AIP also reports that Greenpeace spends between 59 and 69 dollars for every 100 dollars it raises. So to answer your question, they are funding themselves by scaring people into sending donations.
