-Caveat Lector- Here is the full title of Edward Hine's best seller from the late 1800's: "Forty-Seven Identifications of the British Nation with the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel founded upon Five Hundred Scripture Proofs". Identification just means identification. And the three categories below outline how a serious scholar might try to match up modern and ancient identities. But first ask yourself why a MODERN people (CI or JI) might want to identify with those who lived 3,000-4,000 years ago in a very different world. There is far from a continuous lineage in either case. The forced Edomite conversions under the Romans and the voluntary Ashkenazi conversions in more modern times make the JI lineage at least as discontinuous as the CI lineage. Neither JI nor CI can jump up and say, "We have the proof that we are more closely related by biology-genetics to Jacob than to Esau". Not just for 10 tribes but for 12 tribes. Thus neither CI nor JI can claim a victory by category 1. What about 2 and 3? POC
