As I review the idea of limiting petroleum product use, I agree; we can either convert to renewable energy sources, combine those with non-Arab petroleum sources, or just carry on as we currently do - with some changes in approach. The optimum solution must include the U.S. staying out of others' political-social- religious-whathaveyou problems. Buying and importing oil should be no more complicted than buying and importing groceries into one's house. I don't care if the the vendor is one kind of person or another as long as s'he delivers what's promised. If s'he doesn't, I'll take my business elsewhere. The unfortunate thing about "globalisation" is trying to have all these other countries fit into a mold based on European, and more lately, American standards. Used to be that the enjoyment in going to other lands was observing other cultures and societies at work, a work of their own doing, not an imitation of what they think the "West" is. I don't want to sample fifteen different countries' version of a Big Mac. I want to know what makes them unique. Once the powers that be decide to enable the countries in the trading regimes, to enable them to permit and conduct their societies' business as THEY see fit, things will be a lot easier all around. I don't expect my neighbour or some bureaucrat to walk into my house or neighbourhood and tell me I have to plant palm trees every ten feet because that's what the "powerful" expect. A palm tree in my climate just ain't a good idea; just like many "Western" ideas aren't no darned good transplanted into many other areas of the world. And, this goes both ways.
