LETTER TO THE EDITORS:
"Unspeakable evil at Bohemian Grove and in the press"
Congratulations upon the 25-page hatchet job by the New York Times' Ron
Rosenbaum (BOOKS:
'Them': Beyond the Fringe," January 13, 2002) and Patricia Cohen ('THEM'
- Hopping Rides
With a Range of Extremists," Jan 18, 2002), in their "review" of Jon
Ronson's book, "THEM
- Adventures With Extremists".
Ronson had produced a documentary for British TV, in-part on the
successful infiltration
of San Francisco's Bohemian Club at its 2,700-acre "presidential
retreat" of Bohemian
Grove, by investigative journalist Alex Jones. Using insider assistance,
Jones, from
Austin, Texas, and his hidden-video man, Mike Hansen, now a candidate
for Travis County
Commissioner, penetrated past US Secret Service agents and Sonoma County
sheriff's
deputies to reach the inner bowels of the fortified compound.
Their escapades produced the first videotape - to make it out of the
Grove alive - of the
annual "Cremation of Care" ritual of "simulated" child sacrifice and
cremation upon the
altar of the 50-foot-tall Owl of Bohemia. As Jones explained to his
radio audience: "Ha!
We really got 'em good this time!"
One may presume that catching President Bush and Company secretly
partaking of homicidal
pagan rites, while alleging to be America's most-Christian
Conservatives, would be treated
with the reverence it deserves. Especially since the bodies of mutilated
children have
been recovered nearby and alleged "snuff films" were investigated by
Congress
(self-investigated by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department and FBI
that provides
security for the Bohemians).
Instead, Jones was the one lumped into the extreme category inhabited by
alleged
terrorists such as the KKK and "disgruntled" U.S. government employees
Timothy McVeigh and
Usama Bin Laden.
One week later, Jones was again lumped with a new alleged terrorist, a
U.S. Marine named
"Richard McCaslin", who allegedly staged a Lone-Nut invasion of Bohemian
Grove after
listening to Jones' radio show. After forgetting batteries for his
flashlight, the
camouflaged Rambo got lost in the dark among the giant Redwoods and was
forced to sleep in
a cabin. The bemasked vigilante, upset at missing the ritual killings by
six months,
allegedly decided to arson the Grove's dining facility. "Frightened"
deputies allegedly
performed an historic act of negotiation, disarming the heavily armed
"terrorist" without
a single shot, grenade or missile being fired. The jailed terrorist then
immediately held
press conferences to name Alex Jones as his inspiration (but not the New
York Times).
This tale was immediately spun by Santa Rosa's Michael Coit ("Bohemian
Club's friends,
foes dismiss dark tales - Texas talk show host shocked by fan's arrest
but sticks to
claims," January 23, 2002) and Peter Fimrite of the San Francisco
Chronicle ("Masked man
enters, attacks Bohemian Grove - 'Phantom' expected armed resistance,"
Thursday, January
24, 2002).
Like the Times' coverage, neither mentioned the address of Alex Jones'
website,
infowars.com, where readers could view FREE video clips and judge the
accuracy of Jones'
"claims" for themselves. None of the four critics admitted to actually
watching Jones'
video, "Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove," before writing their
30-plus pages of
reviews.
Coit had phoned Jones' live radio show to conduct a mutual interview:
"If my neighbor was
worshipping a 40-foot stone owl and burned children on a fire, I
wouldn't let that
neighbor walk my dog or baby-sit my children. Instead these people are
baby-sitting the
Big Red Button, I mean the nuclear-launch codes," Jones said. "This is
some sick stuff."
Since his video went on sale, Jones said he received threatening emails
from Bohemian
Clubbers in New York City. He added that a fellow videographer of the
Grove in 2000, a
retired military veteran and computer programmer, has been a missing
person for the past
four months. He told his wife and children that he was headed back to
Bohemian Grove to do
additional interviews, and that was the last anyone has admitted seeing
him.
Incidentally, in December Jones released a new documentary video titled,
"911 - The Road
to Tyranny," a collection of mainstream news reports of treason
committed by the Bush
administration and others to stage bogus acts of terrorism against the
American people to
provoke wars.
After reading this sequence of events, a gentle reader might connect the
dots of a wild
conspiracy theory: manipulation of the news by the rich and infamous.
This reminds me of a speech by John Swinton, Chief of Staff of the New
York Times and the
"Dean of his Profession", in a toast before the New York Press Club,
1953: "If I allowed
my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before
twenty-four hours my
occupation would be gone. The business of journalists is to destroy the
truth; to pervert;
to vilify; to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell this country and
this race for their
daily bread. We are the tools and vessels for rich men behind the
scenes. We are the
jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our
possibilities and our
lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual
prostitutes."
My hometown's media moguls of Scripps-Howard News Service are reportedly
members of the
Bohemian Club, both Charles Scripps and Jack Howard. I wonder if they
would agree to an
interview....
