WJPBR Email News List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peace at any cost is a Prelude to War! The sham of immigration laws ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- © 2002 WorldNetDaily.com Let me tell you what I find to be a compelling human interest story. A very close friend of mine – I call him my best friend – searched for a nanny-housekeeper about a decade and a half ago. There were no serious candidates among the U.S. citizens he interviewed, though he advertised the position in local newspapers in Southern California. After a prolonged search, he did find an excellent candidate – a woman who escaped dreadful conditions and oppression in Guatemala along with her young daughter. My friend immediately applied to the Immigration and Naturalization Service for a visa and work permit for his employee and her daughter. He hired an immigration attorney to begin the long process of trying to obtain citizenship for the pair. They moved into his home where he cared for the young girl like his own daughter, schooling her, mentoring her and paying all of her expenses. He paid the mother's taxes and Social Security dutifully as required. In the years since, my friend has spent thousands of dollars in a quest for citizenship for the two people who have become like family members. Visas and work permits were renewed, but the bids for citizenship were not forthcoming. Meanwhile, the little girl grew up as American as apple pie. She is now 20 years old. She was a straight-A student in American schools. She was such a high achiever that she was offered two full scholarships – one to a fine art school and one to a medical school. But she could not accept either because of her citizenship status. Instead, she is attending a local community college and working to support herself as best she can. She is now a taxpayer in her own right. She and her mother desperately want to stay in America and be good citizens. But the immigration bureaucracy won't have any part of it. The immigration attorney says it would be easy to obtain citizenship if only my friend had not followed the rules. If only he had employed his housekeeper illegally, she would be eligible for amnesty programs. It would be a snap. If only he hadn't done what the law requires him to do, things would be so much easier. Is this the way America is supposed to work? Is this the lesson the immigration bureaucracy wants to teach? Do we really want a nation of lawbreakers? Should favors be granted to the least worthy applicants? Should citizenship be granted en masse to people who have not followed the rules and denied individuals who do? It's an incredible story, but true. And my guess is it's just one of a million or more similar horror stories in the "Naked City." And it gets worse. You might recall a column I wrote just prior to the presidential election exposing a hideous effort by the California Democratic Party in conjunction with President Clinton to enlist illegal aliens as voters in the last hours of the 2000 race. "Voter ID cards" were provided to people who were in the INS system but were non-citizens. They were encouraged to vote for Democrats, even though they were clearly ineligible to vote. The young lady who has been systematically denied her legal bid for citizenship was one of the recipients of that mailer. In fact, she was the one who provided me the card and the mailer – and who refused to vote because she knew it was illegal. One can only guess how many others in her situation voted anyway – impacting some very close elections for congressional seats. There was some momentary outrage over the scandal, as reported in WorldNetDaily exclusively, but with a presidential cliffhanger and dozens of other Clinton administration scandals unresolved, unaddressed and unpunished, the furor soon fizzled. I have little hope that monumental injustice will ever be investigated. I have little hope America will wake up to the danger of this kind of class and race politics. I have little hope that the next election will be any different. But I still have hope that someone in Congress or someone in the INS will recognize the continuing injustice being perpetrated against a high-achieving young lady who is the kind of person deserving of U.S. citizenship. If this plea does not fall on deaf ears in the vast federal bureaucracy, I will be more than happy to serve as a conduit to righting this wrong and seeing this great American rewarded for her achievements, her honesty and her loyalty. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Joseph Farah is editor and chief executive officer of WorldNetDaily.com and writes a daily column. *COPYRIGHT NOTICE** In accordance with Title 17 U.
