>In addition, prisoners are served three "culturally appropriate" meals each
>day:

Who determined what was 'culturally appropriate"...

>Breakfast – typically bread, cream cheese, an orange, a pastry, a roll, a
>bottle of water

A lot of starch, sugar and other carbohydrates, and fat, no protein; hardly
a healthy meal, and hardly 'culturally appropriate'.

>Lunch – typically a box of cereal, two cereal bars, a packet of peanuts,
one
>packet crisps, one packet raisins, a bottle of water

Don't know what 'crisps' are, but this meal continues the high fat, starch,
sugars and other carbohydrates of breakfast, and again does not include any
protein; again, hardly a healthy meal and definitely not 'culturally
appropriate'.

>Evening meal – typically white rice, red beans, a banana, bread, a
bottle of
>water

This is the healthiest meal of the day, but one has to be expert in
combining grains and legumes to make sure one gets the proper ratio for
protein; somehow I doubt this detail is being attended to in regards to the
prisoners.

Also, this meal should really be the first meal of the day; not only would
that be healthier, it would indeed be more 'culturally appropriate' for
these men to have their first meal of the day consist of rice and beans,
which is the morning meal of the majority of the people on this planet. It
is only Westerners, and especially Americans, who think of breakfast in
terms of toast and coffee or a danish and orange juice...

>Breakfast followed by shower opportunity and personal time
>Doctor visits to address any medical issues
>Lunch followed by shower opportunity and personal time

"Personal time" -- euphemism for "solitary confinement"....

>The typical weather, notes the Post: "Sunny with temperatures ranging from
72
>degrees at night to around 82 degrees maximum during the day."

That describes the averarage temperature in Cuba in January; I notice that
those who tout this prison as a type of Club Med most pointedly avoid
discussing the HUMIDITY, and one can glean that the humidity is indeed
uncomfortable in the fact that it is stated that the prisoners are allowed
2 showers a day, which is unprecedented in most prisons.

Also avoided is the subject of what the temperature (and humidity) will be
like most of the year; it's relatively comfortable December thru March, but
gets mighty hot (and even higher humidity) April thru November.

Also avoided is the subject of how these prisoners avoid being subject to
the elements, especially tropical storms; it will be interesting to see
what happens at Guatanamo June thru October, hurricane season...will the
prisoners be made to stay in their outdoor kennels during a hurricane or
tropical storm?
