The President of the United States went on national TV and told the American People that American ships had been attacked by North Viet nam. Lyndon Johnson was lying through his teeth and he knew it! Johnson told this lie to provide the excuse he needed to launch direct U.S. combat involvement against North Vietnam. In 1964, if anyone had tried to tell Americans their President was lying to them, they would have been ignored or shouted down. In 1941, if anyone had tried to tell Americans their President was lying to them about Pearl Harbor and the "Day of Infamy", they would have been mobbed and beaten. Today in 2002, if anyone tries to tell Americans their President is lying to them about the attacks of September 11th, they are called traitors and no one will listen to them.
