WTC leaseholder reaches partial settlement of insurance claim Two Bermuda-based insurance companies are the first to agree to pay a World Trade Centre leaseholder for the buildings' destruction. ACE Bermuda Insurance will pay $298 million and XL Insurance will pay $67 million in the next 30 days to Silverstein Properties. The companies wrote policies that allowed the September 11 attack to be considered a "single occurrence". Silverstein is contending polices with 20 other insurers which are more vague. How they should be interpreted is at the centre of pending lawsuits between the insurers and Silverstein. Silverstein argues that because two planes hit the World Trade Centre there were two "occurrences," or insurable events, which would entitle the company to over $7 billion. Insurers say the attack was a single event, which would make them liable for $3.546 billion.
