Many wary of biochip implant prospect.

Most ordinary folks are aghast at the prospect of a biochip-implant
to make identification more certain at airports, power plants and other
places where security could be a high-risk factor. "It really
frightens me," said Carl Hohmann, 30, of Robbinsville, a senior
bookseller at B. Dalton's in the Quakerbridge Mall in Lawrence
Township.
"It's kind of like "1984" coming true with Big Brother
always watching us," he said, referring to the George Orwell novel.
"Someone could monitor you when you haven't done anything really
wrong. I know I wouldn't have one of those things implanted in me -- it's
too much of a control factor. People are people, not lab
rats."
Saying she had "mixed emotions" about the biochip, Rae Cooper,
46, a bookkeeper and mother of two college-age daughters from Winslow
Township, said she would think twice before having anything like that
implanted in her.
"It's kind of like an invasion of privacy," Cooper said.
"The company developing this thing may say initially that they'll
only be going so far with it, but who's to say that someone won't be
developing that kind of technology to include all kinds of personal
information? Criminals could have a field day with this Verichip
thing."
Identifying himself as an electronics engineer from the Trenton area, a
35-year-old man who would only give his first name as "Ken"
said he would "never, ever" have a biochip implanted in his
skin.
"I see it as an invasion of privacy," he said. "It's a way
of tracking you that you'll eventually have no control over. I wouldn't
go for it."
There was, however, one fan of the idea. Mike Sanna, 25, of Hamilton, a
salesman for Cingular Wireless in Lawrence Township, said he'd definitely
purchase a Verichip as soon as it was available.
"I'd go for it -- why not?" Sanna said. "I wouldn't have a
problem with it. I think it's an exciting idea."
Theologians worry the ID chip -- about the size of a grain of rice and
which can be inserted into the skin with a syringe -- is the apocalyptic
"Mark of the Beast."
Terry L. Cook, a theologian, a retired Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff and a
former State of California fraud investigator who holds numerous degrees
and who has published numerous articles and books on biochip technology,
said it could be like Armageddon.
"Will only those implanted with this unique electronic
identification "mark" be permitted to buy and sell while the
rest of us are hunted down as outcasts in the coming global government
called the New World Order?" he writes.
"As technology advances, the various uses for microchips and
biochips seems to be limited only by our imagination -- a truly
frightening thought given the Orwellian-type society in which we live.
Big Brother's New World Order global government will 'tag' humans with
the same 'animal' biochips."
Cook said that a number could conceivably be assigned at birth and go
with a person through life.
"Most likely, the biochip would be implanted on the back of the hand
so that it would be easy to scan," he said. "It would be like a
universal ID card, replacing all other forms of ID."
Cook said that many government officials speak of a glorious New World
Order of peace and security.
"Will the New World Order fulfill Bible prophecy regarding a system
of world government that will ultimately be led by the Antichrist?"
he said.
"Will Biochip ID implants become the dreaded
Mark-of-the-Beast/Mark-of-the-New-World-Order? Indeed, will the final
leader of the communist New World Order be Big Brother or the devil
incarnate, Mr. "666" Antichrist? I'll let you be the judge,
case rested."

And he causeth all, both small and
great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a
mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
And that no man might buy or sell, save he
that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his
name.
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the
beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred
threescore and six.
