It's a very fashionable thing to do these days. The UN and EU have been doing it for many months. They blame Israel for the unrest (it is politely called) in the Middle East. The US government has now turned totally against Israel with a passion, claiming that Israel is trying to " spoil the atmosphere before Zinni's trip by causing the deaths of so many Palestinians". Notice that this rhetoric doesn't speak about the deaths of the "armed guerillas" or "military commandos" under the direction of the PA who're intent on slaughtering innocent Israeli civilians. This implies that Jews are supposed to walk to their deaths like "sheep to the slaughter" without raising a finger for self- defense. The Jews are being sold out again! The US government started to turn against Israel last week when Secretary of State Colin Powell told them "If you declare war on the Palestinians and think you can solve the problem by seeing how many Palestinians can be killed, I don't know if that leads us anywhere." Of course, the Secretary of State is quite right and wrong. Wrong because Israel has not declared war on the Palestinians, they are responding to a war declared on them. But he is right about the futility of a limited military operation, because he knows that the United States refuses to allow Israel to destroy the PA and get rid of that arch-terrorist Arafat who himself is aiding and abetting the Tanzim and the Fatah and Force- 17 security police that report directly to him. And without getting rid of the "head" of the snake, the snake will continue to live and attempt to destroy Israel. 100,000 Israelis on Tuesday called for the dismantling of the PA and getting rid of the terrorists and their weapons, where are the corresponding voices of American Jews and "righteous Gentiles"? The Saudis are also doing it. They blame Israel for being hated in the Arab world because they " use the blood of teenagers (Christians and Moslems) for Purim pastries." This canard (lie) was published in the Saudi government daily, according to MEMRI . So, because the Jews are so "bloodthirsty", goes this logic and reasoning, the Arab world hates them and must destroy them. Never mentioned is the fact that in the Torah animal blood is prohibited to the Jews for "consumption", so how much more so would the blood of human beings (blood represents life and all life is sacred in the Bible) be denied to the people of G-d. Even right now, as P.M. Ariel Sharon has the IDF doing "clean-up" operations in the refugee camps and cites of terrorist infestation like Ramallah, he has made a concessions on the diplomatic front by claiming that Israel will no longer stick to Sharon's original demands for seven-days of quiet before returning to the "negotiating table". So Sharon fights terror with his domestic hand and (because the other diplomatic hand is tied behind his back, by the US) he will try to negotiate with the "enemy" with his other hand. In trying to please everyone, he will end up pleasing no one! And for all this we can truly blame Israel! Or perhaps I should say the "Jews". Why blame the Jews? Because we (Jews) have been less than true to the counsel of our sages! Hillel said, "If I am not for myself, who will be for me? And if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when? Jewish people in particular around the world MUST stand with Israel in defense of her citizen's safety and the country's security. World history has shown us that when the chips are down, everyone will abandon us, except the very few "righteous Gentiles" of the world, and certainly most world governments will abandon us. So the Jews must stand up for our rights to live as Jews (in following the covenant given to us at Mt Sinai), and to survive the hostility and hatred for us (and for G-d's word). A Dallas Physician, Joel Taurog, when writing about Hillel's advice dealt with the second part better than anything else I've ever read. He wrote, "It is a grave mistake to believe that we are 'only for ourselves' when support Israel. By asserting our G-d given right to the land of Israel, we are taking concrete steps in support of world peace. The world is suffering from a tidal wave of Islamic fanaticism that has been nurtured by the Arab-Israeli conflict. There are many who blame the September 11 attack on the US and Arab hostility to the West on us and on American support to Israel. They may be right, but in a way opposite to what they suppose. Arab terrorists were able to dream of conquering the US because they had become progressively embolden by the US policy of 'evenhandedness' that lent support to their claim to the Land of Israel and their violent and mendacious methods of asserting it, and by the willingness of the Israeli leftists to accept Arab claims as legitimate and to concede large parts of the Land of Israel." "An important part of the battle against Islamic fanaticism is for it to become crystal clear to the Arabs that the Land of Israel belongs to the Jews, and they have no hope of conquering it. This may sound naive and idealistic, but it is less na�ve than thinking that sacrificing Israel to the Arabs (G-d forbid) will stop Islamic aggression elsewhere in the world. Moreover it is spelled out in the Prophetic writings that world peace will only come about when the Jews dwell securely in the Land of Israel. It is no more idealistic or unrealistic to advocate this ancient and noble vision of world peace than anything that has subsequently been dreamed up." So where are all the Jews out there who care about world peace (not only about a safe and secure Israel) FIGHTING to get the US government to untie Sharon's diplomatic hand? Where are all the "righteous Gentiles" of today's generation, who can see the incredible bias in the media against Israel and who are willing to stand up for Israel's rights to FIGHT terrorism just as much as America has a right to FIGHT the Taliban and Al-Qaida? During the Holocaust, "righteous Gentiles" fought against Hitler and the Nazis extermination plans because of altruistic motives. They just knew in their "kishkas" it was the right thing to do, even it if meant losing their own lives in the process. In our own generation, I wouldn't even mind if the motive for "righteous Gentiles" supporting Israel was more about their realizing that Israel is on the front lines of FIGHTING radical fanaticized Islam for the worlds benefit as well as to benefit Israel. So here's what we do folks! FIGHT the hype that Gaza and the West Bank are "occupied territories" because the truth is they are "disputed territories" and the dispute goes all the way back to the 1948 War of Independence, when the Arab world immediately attacked the new State of Israel. Gaza and the West Bank became "occupied" by Egypt and Jordan respectively, and the borders of those territories happened to be the armistice lines from the war, wherever the troops had stopped that night before the armistice was declared. These are NOT secure borders, which is what UN resolution 242 says Israel has a right to have, and for which the Israelis are FIGHTING. These territories were re-occupied Israeli land taken back in 1967 after Israel was attacked again, in another attempt by the Arab states to destroy the Jewish State. We must FIGHT the insistence in the Arab world that the so-called "refugees" who fled their homes in Palestine, because the Arab leaders told them to do so, NOW can come back inside the Green Line of Israel proper, to destroy her from within. Instead, they should be going to the Palestinian State for Arabs, which is Jordan (originally called "Trans- Jordanian Palestine"). We must FIGHT the bias of the media by writing letters to the editors about all of this unjust treatment of Israel. There's a universal law of "measure for measure" some also call it "what goes around comes around" or the law of "sowing and reaping". If we do not FIGHT with Israel in every way we can from these shores, we will not be able to complain when the terrorism (and the canards/lies that plague Israel in the Arab press) of radical Islam continues to come to the US to destroy us as well. We need to write to P.M. Sharon (or fax 011-972-2-670-5475) and tell him we as citizens of the US support the Israelis going after the PA, and terrorist Arafat, to destroy the terrorist infrastructure and get rid of the PA! We need to get our news about the war from the IDF and write to them telling them we support the "cleanup operations" and the efforts to safeguard the citizens of Israel from terrorists. And we need to write to President Bush and also to Vice President Cheney asking them to treat Israel as a partner in the US war on Terrorism and as a "front- line" of that conflict against radicalized regimes and incitement to hate and violence. Then we will be able to sleep at night, when the Israelis also can do that!
