Polish Archbishop Resigns in Wake of Sex Abuse Scandal - 3/28/02 - Warsaw
(Reuters) - A Polish archbishop accused of molesting young priests quit on
Thursday, bowing to pressure to end the worst sex scandal to hit the powerful
Roman Catholic church in Poland. Archbishop Juliusz Paetz, 67, told a
gathering of clerics in his Poznan diocese in western Poland he was leaving
his post to protect the ``unity and stability'' of the church, Poland's
official Catholic news agency KAI said....A newspaper report last month
saying Paetz (allegedly) forced trainee priests and young clerics into
homosexual acts created the biggest storm yet over the behavior of churchmen
in Poland, where the Catholic hierarchy still has enormous influence.

Axis Of Evil - in Washington, D.C. Edward Herman - March 15, 2002

Coup d'etat president George W. Bush has designated three poor and
unconnected states as an "axis of evil," reflecting this great moralist's
sensitivity to good and evil. He has been subjected to a certain amount of
criticism for this strong language even in the mainstream press, but nobody
there has suggested that, as so common in this post-Orwellian world, such
language might better fit its author and his associates.

There IS a political axis of evil running strong in the United States that
underpins the Bush regime, which includes the oil industry,
military-industrial complex (MIC), other transnationals, and the Christian
Right, all important contributors to the Bush electoral triumph, and each
of which has high level representation in the administration including,
besides Bush himself, Cheney, Rumsfeld, O'Neill and Ashcroft.

We are Governed by Fear: An Interview with Congressman Dennis Kucinich By
Scott Galindez March 14, 2002

....Peace is in our national interest. International cooperation is in our
national interest. We need to have grand civic dialogue about what we might
be able to do here to change the direction of the nation. It certainly
needs change. We can spend an extra forty-five billion dollars this year
for military when they can't even keep track of their own budget, and still
we have forty-two million people without adequate health insurance, senior
citizens splitting pills in order to try to meet their health requirements
and still protect their budget. We have schools that are still falling
apart with programs that don't work. We have so much to do. Yet, society is
becoming militarized.

Guess who's tracking you by cell phone?
By Ben Charny Special to ZDNet News February 27, 2002, 3:00 PM PT

The nation's cell phone service providers will soon know exactly where
every one of their customers is, at all times, and privacy rights groups
are asking what they plan to do with the information. All U.S. carriers are
under Federal Communications Commission orders to make it possible for police
to locate cell phones calling 911, something police can't do now. Carriers
plan to use the same systems to sell
services like helping stranded motorists even if they don't know their
location, or finding the closest restaurant. Because people with cell phone
generally always carry their phone with
them, the FCC regulations give the thriving market for personal information
something its never had a chance to get: the exact locations at all times of
more than 140 million people.

"There are some things you don't mind other people knowing, but your location
isn't one of them," said Gary Laden, a privacy program director for
BBBOnline, a Better Business Bureau subsidiary.

The Heritage Foundation Power Elites
A. K. Chesterton once said: "The proper study of political mankind is the
study of power elites, without which nothing that happens could be
understood." He added: "These elites, preferring to work in private, are
rarely found posed for photographers, and their influence upon events has
therefore to be deduced from what is known of the agencies they employ."
Chesterton described those agencies: "Their goal was to work through such
agencies, and financial support received from one or other or all three big
American foundations--Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Ford -- provides an
infallible means of recognizing them."

The Rockefellers made $200,000,000.00 from World War I. Henry Kissinger's
brother Walter heads the Allen Group. The super-wealthy (with the exception
of some Du Ponts and the Fords) have long supported the Republican Party --
the party of plutocratic oligarchy. "If not kings themselves, they are
king-makers." They have quick access to the White House no matter who is
President. Other super-rich, such as the Rockefellers, affiliate with the
Democratic Party. Politics in the U.S., no matter what party, is under the
control of the super-rich, large corporations and the international bankers.

The Rogues Gallery

ActivistCash.com
Run by Washington lobbyist Rick Berman, this web site claims to expose the
"hidden" funding behind environmental and health activists, but won't
disclose its own funding—which comes from the tobacco, alcohol and restaurant
industries.

American Council on Science and Health
Led by Elizabeth Whelan, ACSH doesn't like cigarettes, but that's virtually
the only dangerous product they've ever criticized.

Competitive Enterprise Institute
CEI claims that environmental, health and safety regulations carry hidden
costs that actually hurt people, but when it defends tobacco it argues that
"some things are more important than health."
Council for Tobacco Research
This classic front group for the tobacco industry began in the 1950s with the
stated mission of finding out whether cigarettes were dangerous, and if so,
fixing the problem. Its real mission was to create confusion in the minds of
the public regarding the evidence linking smoking to cancer and other
diseases.

Global Climate Coalition
Sponsored by the auto, oil, coal and other industries responsible for most of
the greenhouse gas emissions that are changing the climate, the GCC wanted
you to believe that global warming is not a problem.

Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine
The OISM is most notorious for circulating a deceptive petition that claimed
to represent thousands of scientists who don't believe in global warming.

....But, mounting evidence suggests that President Bush and Attorney General
Ashcroft are breaking their sworn duty to fully enforce civil rights laws and
are in fact crippling the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department.
Since the start of the Bush Administration, the Justice Department has:
Abandoned a landmark civil rights case against the Philadelphia transit
system that used a harsh physical test that has nothing to do with the job
requirements, but excludes nearly all women applicants from transit police
positions.
Failed to bring any new cases against any police departments for police
misconduct or abuse.
Undercut minority-voting rights by failing to fully enforce the Voting Rights
Act in Mississippi.
Brought only one new case for civil rights violations in the workplace.
Suggested releasing the Adam's Mark Hotel chain accused of racial
discrimination against its guests from a court ordered settlement.

March 28, 2002 For Chilean Coup, Kissinger Is Numbered Among the Hunted
By LARRY ROHTER - SANTIAGO, Chile — With a trial of Gen. Augusto Pinochet
increasingly unlikely here, victims of the Chilean military's 17-year
dictatorship are now pressing legal actions in both Chilean and American
courts against Henry A. Kissinger and other Nixon administration officials
who supported plots to overthrow Salvador Allende Gossens, the Socialist
president, in the early 1970's. In perhaps the most prominent of the cases,
an investigating judge here has formally asked Mr. Kissinger, a former
national security adviser and secretary of state, and Nathaniel Davis, the
American ambassador to Chile at the time, to respond to questions about the
killing of an American citizen, Charles Horman, after the deadly military
coup that brought General Pinochet to power on Sept. 11, 1973.
