-Caveat Lector- The point is that BOTH (really all) Sides here are out of control.
For some reason most people will either list one side or the others atrocious behavior - but check it out - no one is behaving sanely here. ( perhaps because those institutionalized insanities - religion and nationalism- are at the root of all this nonsense) What is propaganda is reporting this killing as evil, while whitewashing murderous acts like blowing up school buses - and visa versa. Israel his mishandled this situation badly - I've never seen such a sea-change in world opinion so fast. But the 2 years of suicide bombings and wholesale killing of civilians was designed to provoke exactly this sort of military overreaction. Let's face it. Lots of people have lots invested in this - and peace does not serve their purposes. In Jan. Israel was ready to concede to 95% of the PA's desires in negotiations. All that had to happen was both sides remaining calm, and signing the damn thing. Instead there was violence, and the rhetoric of violence - on both sides. One cannot negotiate from the stance - " Only if these demands are met first" - because those demands are what is being negotiated. To negotiate takes trust and daring and will. And compromise.
