I was living in Diyarbakir, Turkey at the time, and someone used an empty store front to put up the pictures of the victims. Shortly after, thousands of Iraqui Kurds (the Peshmergah) fled Iraq, and several thousand were accepted by Turkey. They lived just outside of town, took any job they could get (walking however many miles it happened to be to get to work) and are probably still dreaming of the day old Saddam and his co-horts are gone, and they can go home. I remember that one Turkish business man donated a thousand mattresses to the refugees. As I remember they were a handsome, honest, proud, hardworking people. Oddly those are not the qualifications for success in today's world.
