Subject: Let's raise $100,000 for McKinney - it is doable!
********** please forward *********************
Dear Friends:
Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (D-GA), the strongest advocate in
Congress for a just peace in Israel/Palestine, needs your help! Please
forward this message to all individuals or groups favoring a balanced
Middle East policy.
If you can send the message to a large list, then please do so. I only
ask that you notify me of donations, so that I may tabulate the
contributions total.
We all know that money wins elections and extremist forces are
mobilizing financial support for Rep. McKinney's opponent (also an
African-American woman) in the Democratic Primary scheduled for August
20. If we really want to help the people of the Middle East reach
peace, then we need to stand up for Cynthia now and help defend her
against this type of assault.
Through our networks across the country of peace activists, and others
active in the struggle for Justice in Israel and Palestine, we ought to
be able to raise $100,000 by August 1 for Cynthia McKinney.
$100 each from a 1000 people, $200 each from 500 people, or $500 each
from 200 people should not be difficult to achieve. If we can do it
once, then we could do it again in critical congressional contests in
the future.
(NOTE: The maximum legal contribution for an individual is $1000 per
election cycle; contributions of more than $200 must, by law, include
the donor's name, address, occupation, and name of employer.)
DO NOT SEND YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO ME. You can contribute directly to
the McKinney reelection campaign through the website at
http://www.cynthia2002.com
OR you can snail mail a check, payable to "Cynthia McKinney for
Congress," to:
Cynthia McKinney for Congress
PO Box 371125
Decatur, GA 30037
But please NOTIFY us of your contribution so that I can track progress
toward the campaign's goal. You can email me directly
([EMAIL PROTECTED]), or email the organizer of this campaign - Andy Silver
- a Jewish-American peace activist in NC at [EMAIL PROTECTED] In your
email message please use subject heading "Cynthia Campaign 100,000" and
copy to Ms. McKinney ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and let us
know how much you've contributed to McKinney. Remember - every $ to
McKinney is a stance in support of peace, justice, and civil rights. We
need McKinney in Congress.
Please remember that Congressional campaign contributions are not tax
deductible and corporate contributions are not allowed. Federal
regulations require that only legal residents and US citizens are
permitted to make campaign contributions.
Already, hundreds of dollars have been gathered. Really - if 1,000 of
us give $100, we'll have reached our goal of $100,000! Let's do it!
thanks,
Rania Masri (donated $100)

p.s. I am including an important and empowering message below!

And now the young black groups are calling for national support for
Cynthia.
July 9, 2002
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
Members of African-American social and community organizations
have always been among the first to support African American
leaders at home and abroad.
Many of our members are noted leaders - in fact, that is part of
our creed - we train for leadership.
So when one of our proven leaders needs our support, it is crucial
that we come out as a community to show the world how we
support our own.
Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is one of our own: a proven
leader who has battled in Georgia and in the halls of Congress to
prove herself as a true representative of our people.
Congresswoman McKinney is a member of two A-1 committees,
the Armed Services and International Relations Committees.
She has seniority, and an excellent voting record. She has earned,
in appropriations, over $356 million dollars for her district,
the 4th District of Georgia. Her positions on education, health
care, care for our elderly, and care for the environment, are in
line with the highest national agenda.
The Congresswoman is a woman of peace who has shown the
importance of maintaining national security while caring for
our brethren in the Armed Services. She has been instrumental
in leading the fight to cease excessive military spending and focus
on the domestic agenda.
Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is one of our own.
No, I am not saying she belongs to a sorority. I am saying she has
proven herself as a leader in African American national and local
interests. Cynthia McKinney is known throughout the world as a
hardworking, straight talking sister who has acted in the interest
of our community, the Black community, while keeping faith with all
the communities represented in her district. As such, she is often
attacked because she represents those views that, although they
enforce the empowerment of our people, rub against the wishes
of the status quo.
As you may be aware, Congresswoman McKinney has been
under fierce attack for courageously speaking truth to power.
The Congresswoman takes every opportunity that she can to
refer to the Cointel-pro operations that tried to silence the
activism of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Those programs,
designed to pick leaders from outside of our community,
are still in place, and are operating in political campaigns across
the country, the most notable being the contest involving
Cynthia McKinney of Georgia and her primary opponent,
and Earl Hilliard of Alabama and his primary opponent.
Hilliard lost his bid on June 25th. Let's not let this
happen to Cynthia McKinney.
Since the Congresswoman was elected to Congress ten years ago,
the powers that be have actively tried to silence her, planning by
any means necessary to get her to sit down and shut up.
But it doesn't stop there. All over the country, people are saying
that Cynthia McKinney best represents our views in terms of war,
domestic and military spending, international policy and human
rights. There is a national movement afoot to Adopt
Cynthia McKinney as the Congressperson representing issues
important to African American and national survival.
If your Congressmember does not reflect you,
go to http://www.adoptcynthiamckinney.com to show support for
Cynthia's policies and bravery.
As you know, the political machine and the media are still playing
the game of Choose Black Leaders, this time with a few new
players. Currently, the Congresswoman is facing a primary
opponent who openly opposes affirmative action, and is
supported by people outside of our community who see her
as a "safer" choice for Black folks. Safer for them, not for us.
We live in dangerous times, and we need a conscientious
warrior to like Cynthia McKinney to represent us.
We have to let the world know that we choose our own leaders.
That is why it is crucial that we stand with our proven leaders at
this time. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is being lauded
around the world for her courageous stand in terms of 911.
We who believe in freedom must continue to support those
who fight for us.
Because of this primary challenge, the Congresswoman needs two types
of donations: time and money. Financial contributions are urgently
needed, Please send financial contributions to:
http://www.cynthia2002.com or
Cynthia McKinney for Congress,
PO Box 371125
Decatur, Georgia 371125,
404-243-5574.
The second donation that is urgently needed is time.
We need people in Georgia, and going to Georgia, to do some down
-home grassroots organizing with us. There are two times when help
is really needed. Now, until July 22, to help with the Voter
Registration drive, and especially two weeks before the primary,
from August 6 until August 20. We need volunteers to go to the
campaign office and work with the Congresswoman's campaign
staff postering, making phone calls, going door to door and sending
emails.
The campaign address is 2600 Rainbow Way, in Decatur, Georgia.
This personal and time-based support is very important.
Let the sister know she is not alone! Let the world know we
support one of our own strong! We are trying to get all
organizations to commit at least 5 people to go down!
We are also trying to take a bus down to Georgia, leaving from the
Reparations Rally on the National Mall, August 17, 2002. If you
can't go, please sponsor someone who might not have the money,
but might have the time to donate. Please e-mail or call me if you
are interested.
It is my sincere hope that you will assist me in helping our
courageous and stalwart sister so she can continue to serve as a
voice for the voiceless on a local, national and global scale.
Let us show this country how Brothers and Sisters help a sister
in a time of need.
Let us support Sister Representative Cynthia McKinney.
I know we can do it!
Sincerely,
Jeff Johnson, Omicron Lambda Alpha Chapter
