I have to disagree with the Stasi-comparasion.
The Stasi was scary, was a threat. Even in those times, people were rather
aware (as I was told by citizen of the former GDR) of the Stasi being "not
the good ones", they were no heroes.

Many people joined the Stasi because the gained special advantages, they could
leave the country for some days for example or they would get an appartment
quicker than usual.

But Bushs "Citizen Corps" will be no corps of people living in a poor society
and earning for advantages, this time there are people just being willing to
tell everything about their neighbours etc. for
a) the sake of the country
b) the sake of security

Much scarier is the fact that there will be enough people willing to spy out
their friends, hubbies, wifes ...

I have written a short story about this and I was not sure if it would be
alright if I send it to the list here - I do not want to bother anyone with
something unwanted and I am not accustomed with the manners in this list too
much.

It is in German so far but will be translated in English within the next days.
So if it wont be too much hassle, I would like to send it to this list.

Apart from this - I think that this system is simply an invitation to abuse.
Not all the time an abuse which was made by intention.
No, I think this abuse can be made with the best intention in mind - just
think of people seeing their neighbour cuddle his naked baby and being so
alarmed by certain news that they think "he must me a pedophil one"

So there will be a lot of people reporting something which they think they
have seen, but they have just seen "something", the rest if up to their own
kind of imagination etc.

I mean - you can see a foreign man with some white powder in his shop.
You can think of
a) cocain (a drug dealer, get the police)
b) any drug (an addict, help)
c) a certain spice you do not know

"Suspicious" is such a hilarious word because anyone judges it different.
Not always with bad intentions but I wonder what will happen with those people
(if these plans come true) who have been caught in this web of "suspicious
reports".
