FEMA & The Great American Neurosis
By J.J. Johnson

We interrupt the current state of neurotic paralysis among the population in an attempt to make some sanity out of the insane. As if every 'terrorism alert' wasn't enough, it seems our anxiety level isn't raised to the limit just yet. Our latest is a Newsmax report that FEMA, the federal agency charged with disaster preparedness, is engaged in a crash effort to prepare for multiple mass destruction attacks on U.S. cities - including the creation of sprawling temporary cities to handle millions of displaced persons. No offense to Newsmax, as this report is going around the Internet faster than a computer virus, but permit me to interject a dose of reality and a few other things.

First of all, FEMA has (or should have) had plans such as these for years. In fact, I recall seeing the evacuation plans for Columbus, Ohio back almost 10 years ago. If FEMA is just getting around to such contingencies, then it's already too late. Here's the bigger issue:

a) Do you really think some government agency can actually prepare for millions of displaced people in metropolitan areas?
b) Do you really trust the government to take care of you in such an emergency?
c) Do you believe everything they tell you anyway?
d) Whoever told you the government was responsible for your safety in the first place?

All right, Real Americans. You're starting to drive me nuts (Newsflash: I already had a few screws loose). The possibility of attacks on major U.S. cities has been real ever since Russia launched their first satellite into space back in 1957. That threat has never changed. The irrationality of the American Public is even being reflected in the financial markets. I submit the reason for all this irrationality is because we are at war. Yet it seems no one has a clue of who, what, and where we are fighting. We see a government and a world gone out of control with more rules, regulations and potential threats. There is a daily barrage of 'action alerts'. The Constitution might as well be a piece of used toilet paper for what it's worth, and the world's going to hell in a handbasket.

And to some of you, the best plan of action is to stick out your tongue and say, "See, we told you so". Honestly, it's getting tiring, boring and yes - a bit frustrating. But some people out there - with all that's going on - still insist that everything is a plot. It's Bush, The Democrats, the corporations, the IRS, the Federal Reserve, the New World Order, the Trilateral Commission, the Bilderbergers, the Illuminati, Aliens, Meteors, Comets, Planet X, Chemtrails, HARRP, or all of the above. So, the government has had this 'master plan' since who-knows-when and we're all 'falling for it' (except you - the person who insists on telling the world what's REALLY going on).

The news out there from Real Americans is nothing but gloom-and-doom, and 'see how bad your government has gotten?'

Let me tell you something that keeps me slightly sane these days. It was the words of a Canadian national that lived in our local town for a while. Her statement, made during the Y2K panic, was short and to the point - and has stuck with me ever since:

"You Americans give your government too much credit."

She was (and is still) correct. Too many people still look at this government as a conspiratorial and tyrannical beast. They preach about it almost as if it's a religion. "The government has a long term plan to 'control' the population, and there's nothing we can do about it." Of course, there are still some who believe the mere filing of a few forms will solve all the problems - as if we were actually still operating under a constitution, anyway.

Look people, I lost faith in this government long ago. Not because of their tyranny of the coming 'martial law', but due to their continued incompetence. For those that have read my past articles, you'll see a reflection of that opinion. However, if I lost as much faith in the people of this country as I have in government, I wouldn't bother writing this - for it would be a waste of time.

But some of you are really testing my patience.

Want to know a secret? I stopped blaming government for things a long time ago. I blame us - We The People. Example: We fuss at the government for not letting pilots arm themselves on flights, when the real blame should be laid at the feet of the pilots for not choosing to be armed (else not fly), or the passengers who insist on buying tickets for those un-armed flights. We fuss at the federal government for not taking care of the forests, yet refuse to take the initiative and do it ourselves. That's just two examples. There are many.

Maybe it's over. Maybe this country has just gone so far that there really is no saving it. Think so? Think the powers that be are in the last phases of implementing that 'final plan'? Well, if so, that's not the big story. This big story is a question that needs to be answered:

WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT IT?

If WE are the people that are so tuned in to what's really going on, why didn't we make contingency plans long ago? (Lemme guess: waiting to see what FEMA came up with first?) Why the hell are we making a fuss over a stupid TIPS program when a) we've always been the eyes and the ears and b) since when did the authorities start listening to the people's tips and advice anyway?

In this crowd, if a terrorist incident is to be stopped, we stop it - then call the authorities to clean up the mess. Trust me: Team Jihad fears Real Americans a lot more than they fear the U.S. government.

I could go on and on. But if I were King, I'd say this: Stop genuflecting on what may come and start preparing for what we can do to survive it all. Yes, I know some of you have. Others among you - well, you've at least made it point to inform us that the sky really is falling.

In my opinion, we should be (should have been) talking about 'victory gardens', discussions on dinner recipes with Y2K supplies, and stocking up on more. There should be plans made on which federal lands will be occupied by those of us who knew to get the hell out of that city before the mad rush, and how to survive there.

Oh, did I say 'federal lands'?

Yes. You see, if that master plan is to have a few nukes, bio-chems, etc go off in some U.S city, what makes you think the government would have any authority and respect left? Believe me when I say that one nuke - JUST ONE - and the social fabric will begin to unravel - and there won't be a damn thing FEMA can do about it. I could get even more frightening: it wouldn't even take chemical, nuclear, or biological warfare. I've seen what a downed transmission or water line can do to a community in just a few days. But I digress…

Ladies and Gentlemen: If we think everything is going down the tubes, then let's start taking steps to survive and (God help us) rebuild if necessary. We'll need faith in one another. We'll need communications (Hey guys, we could lose phone lines and routers in a WTC minute). We'll need food, water, and sanitation. We'll need transportation. We'll need medicine. And with what I'm seeing, looking toward any government to help us out in that respect is hypocrisy. We can and must begin to do it ourselves.

This means: stop bitching, stop giving up hope, and get to work.

If what many of you are saying has merit, logic dictates you soon may not have a federal government around to slow you down - or to fuss about. We do have the greatest assets of all - each other.

Don't we?

Don't start yelling at The Sierra Times for answers. We put out the warnings and alerts (many long before the government got around to it). We published the junk science articles, the alternative health measures, and even made our message boards available for discussion on how to get things done. And we'll do more whenever we can.

If I were King, I'd say stop preaching our cause (whatever it is) to the world. By now, they either get it, or they don't. It's like thousands of people warning about a coming rainstorm, but no one bothered to buy an umbrella. We're gonna look pretty stupid when we're all wet. Pop Quiz Time:

Ok, so on the job, you can't keep you mouth shut long enough to disprove to your workmates that you're just a kook, right? But when something serious happens, who do those same detractors come to for the REAL answers?

That's right. You - that kook that no one wants to listen to.

Did any of you ever stop and think that maybe people are depending on you for answers on what to do - not just your analysis of the current state of affairs?

Others around you think like you do? Well, there's your group of friends and families.

We don't have all the answers, and we can't make plans for everyone. We can say to start looking around you and at what you have. It may not be much, but it'll be useful to someone. Real America, listen carefully: There is no need to prove or demonstrate what this government is really about, or really up to. Real Americans should be praying for the best, and preparing for the worst.

No matter who is out to destroy America, we are the few that may be the only ones left to save it. C'mon, people. I still have faith in you. Let's get to work. We gotta nation to save. If we can't - well, at least we got each other.

Let's Roll.
