DETROIT (AP) - Taking advantage of a provision in Michigan's statute of
limitations, authorities charged four Roman Catholic priests who once worked
in the Detroit Archdiocese with sex abuse in cases dating back decades.
None of the priests is still active, and all live in other states - which is the main reason prosecutors were able to charge them Tuesday, Wayne County Prosecutor Mike Duggan said. Prosecutors used an exception in the old statute of limitations law that allows charges to be brought if the suspect left the state before the
six-year statute ran out.

O'Donnell's departure from the priesthood in 1986 left a Catholic parish and the Spokane psychology community seething....Despite a documented history of child molestation, he faced no criminal charges and hadn't even been defrocked....Bishop William Skylstad and his staff acknowledged the Spokane Diocese knew of multiple instances of alleged molestation before O'Donnell was sent from active ministry to sexual deviancy treatment in 1976.

Bush's recently proclaimed doctrine of "pre-emptive intervention" anywhere on Earth is nothing less than a frightening revival of the old imperialist Brezhnev Doctrine of 25 years ago that called for Soviet intervention wherever socialism was threatened. "Bush, himself the most intellectually backward American president of my political lifetime, is surrounded by advisers whose bellicosity is exceeded only by their political, military and diplomatic illiteracy." Such were the stinging words of Gerald Kaufman, highly respected former foreign affairs spokesman of Britain's ruling Labour party, America's closest ally. Bush's accelerating campaign to invade Iraq and turn it into another U.S. oil protectorate is also provoking a storm of outrage across Europe....
