Rocket Attacks On Several US Afghan Bases On 911 Sep 12, 2002 Source: Balochistan Post Several US and Afghan troops were killed or wounded when anti-US Afghan Mujahideen attacked a base of US troops at Lawara Mandi in Paktia province of eastern Afghanistan. Reports reaching here said that about fifteen to twenty missiles hit the base causing huge losses to the barracks, equipment and vehicles. Report said that several troops were evacuated from the base after the attack which were either killed or wounded. Meanwhile, a vehicle of the US troops blew up in pieces when a landmine exploded near Gardez. All the persons in the vehicle are believed to have been killed. AIP also said the civilian airport in the eastern city of Jalalabad came under rocket attack overnight. Meanwhile, some 200 US troops arrived on Wednesday in the southeast Afghan city of Khost, an Afghan news agency reported. Official Statement Unidentified attackers fired several rockets at a US base in the southeastern Afghan city of Khost on Wednesday but no one was hurt, a US military spokesman said. "There was a rocket attack, two 107 mm rockets were fired but neither one hit with close enough proximity to do any damage," said Lieutenant Colonel Roger King. King said the attack, at the southeastern town of Lwara, was "not an unusual occurrence." Earlier, on Wednesday a gunman opened fire at the US-dominated base at Bagram north of Kabul. He was arrested after US soldiers guarding the base returned fire and injured him. A US military spokeswoman said earlier that two local men were involved in the incident, although it was not clear whether both opened fire. She said both men had been arrested.
