http://www.rumormillnews.net/cgi-bin/config.pl?read=23352 Israel has Incredible NUCLEAR Weapons Capabilities Posted By: ArtBishop Date: Monday, 23 September 2002, 5:40 p.m. REASONS NOT to Go to WAR with Iraq 1 It would be illegal. 2 There is no credible evidence indicating that there are significant links between Saddam Hussein and Islamic fundamentalist terrorists groups. 3 Iraq is not considered a threat to any of its neighbors. 4 If the U.S. policy of regime change is carried through, it would set a dangerous precedent. 5 The Iraqi opposition groups don’t even support U.S. plans to remove Saddam Hussein. 6 The U.S.’s demand that Iraq admit UN inspectors is unjustified. 7 If the U.S. attacks Iraq, it would further complicate problems in the Middle East. 8 Disposing Saddam Hussein will be much more difficult than the Taliban. 9 Saddam Hussein has expressed his willingness to work with the ‘international community.’ 10 A U.S. military operation in Iraq would put U.S soldiers at tremendous risk. 11 The U.S military isn’t even ready to attack Iraq. 12 It could further destabilize the global economy. 13 An attack on Saddam would likely provoke him into using whatever destructive weapons he actually has. 14 If the U.S. was really concerned about the threats posed 'rogue states' that posses WMD's, the U.S. would also be rattling the sabers at several of its own allies, and even itself. 15 War in Iraq could draw Israel into the conflict. 16 War in Iraq could quickly become nuclear. ! ! Read and weep. 14 If the U.S. was really concerned about the threats posed by 'rogue states' that possess WMD's, the U.S. would also be rattling the sabers at several of its own allies (ISRAEL), and even itself. (A) 1991. UN Resolution 687, paragraph 14. (1) Israeli and U.S. ‘defense’ policy is in clear violation of the spirit of 1991 UN Resolution 687, para. 14., which acknowledged the long term goal of establishing the Middle East (that would include Israel) as a zone free from weapons of mass destruction. (B) Israel’s weapons (1) Israel has incredible nuclear weapons capabilities that are comparable to those of Britain and France (MSNBC Israeli Files). According to a Summer 2002 report published by the US Air Force’s Counter-Proliferation Center, Israel as over 400 nuclear weapons, including hydrogen bombs. This revelation makes Israel the fifth largest nuclear superpower in the world. (1) Moreover, Israel’s nuclear facilities were developed with the help of U.S. scientists and were financed with billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars. ii The U.S. (A) In 1995, signatories to the Biological and Toxic Weapons Convention began negotiations to establish an inspection system through which the provisions of the agreement could be enforced. But for six years, the United States impeded these efforts until they were completely abandoned. The U.S. opposed the convention because it feared that inspections of U.S. facilities might harm the profits of U.S. biotech companies. But had an effective and unbiased enforcement mechanism been established, perhaps Iraq would have long ago agreed to weapons inspections. (Mahajan 8-5-2002) (B) The US is itself in violation of laws concerning biological and chemical weapons. The Swiss International Relations and Security Network (ISN) concluded that “the United States has embarked on a program of secret research on biological weapons that, some officials say, tests the limits of the global treaty banning such weapons...The 1972 treaty forbids nations from developing or acquiring weapons that spread disease, but it allows work on vaccines and other protective measures.” The U.S. countered this criticism with the claim that it was done solely for defense purposes. (Chossudovsky 11-28-2001) b Statements. i Iraqi delegate Samir al-Nama argued that the accusations were unfounded and that the U.S. was hypocritical in not confronting Israel with regards to their weapons systems. (Olson 1-26-2002) ii Hubert G. Locke, a retired professor and former dean of the Daniel J. Evans Graduate School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington, wrote: “This having been said, we are compelled to take note of several other matters. First, if getting rid of rogues with a fascination with weapons of mass destruction is a criterion for launching regime changes, there are a number of other candidates who deserve critical attention.” (Locke 7-26-2002) iii Howard Zinn, a well-regarded American historian, noted in an op-ed piece published in the Boston Globe, “[O]ther nations which killed hundreds of thousands of their own people (Indonesia, Guatemala) not only were not threatened with war, but received weapons from the United States. Iraq's history of invading Kuwait is matched by other countries, among them the United States, which has invaded Vietnam, Cambodia, Grenada, and Panama. True, Iraq may possess, may be developing ‘weapons of mass destruction.’ But surely the possession of such weapons, if not used, does not constitute a clear and present danger justifying war. Other nations have such weapons. Israel has nuclear weapons. Pakistan and India have nuclear weapons and have come close to using them. And what country has by far the largest store of weapons of mass destruction in the world?
