Dec. 12, 2000 Sept. 11, 2001 Presidency held hostile: 811 Days left. DAY 652 Congress held hostile: 66 Days left. Friday November 1st 2002 Check out the Editorials Archive for past articles Grave Spitting and Other Bush Habits by W. David Jenkins III October 31, 2002 Now that the shock has begun to ebb - ever so slightly - after the tragic death of Senator Paul Wellstone, I've had a chance to look around and see exactly how important November 5th is to America's future. Not that I ever had any doubt, mind you, but there are some things which have slipped under the radar due to our ever present deluge of media-hyped manipulation "exercises." Number one, and clocking in at a "10-plus" for sleaze and right-wing grave- spitting, is the infestation that is Karl Rove. Long before "The Little Bush That Couldn't" spoke of his sympathy for the "loss of the Senate," Rodent Rove's office was on the horn with the Minnesota Secretary of State with his deplorable "whatcha gonna do now?" routine. Then to make sure the sludge kept coming, the right wing unearthed Newt Gingrich and other hypocrites to attack Wellstone's replacement, Walter Mondale. I swear these people have no shame! I'm not surprised at such behavior by these illegals but I am amazed at the depth they are willing to sink. I'm beginning to think that there aren't a lot of mirrors in the White House. I mean, if I were Karl Rove, the last thing I'd want to do is have to look at myself. That, of course, goes for the rest of the squatters living and working in the White House as well. Then again, if one has no conscience . . . Not that grave spitting is anything new to Bush II. They've been doing it since September 11th of last year. The families of those lost on that horrific day wonder what Bush II has to hide. Why did he and Cheney, as early as October 2001, go to Daschle and others saying, "Let's not dig into this too deeply. It wouldn't be good for the country." Why else would the Gang of Four fight an independent investigation and then - when the Republican dominated House voted for one - say, "Well, okay" only to turn around a few weeks later and say, " Nah, we don't wanna do that after all." Just what is hiding in the Bushes? Same goes for Cheney and his hiding of the Energy Commission documentation. Here he is, ordered by the courts to release the information as to who was involved in formulating America's energy policy and he keeps flipping the bird to the legal system. How come? You think many of us don't know that the people who manufactured California's "energy crisis" over a year ago were a part of your "advisors?" You think we're that stupid? You don't think we already know about the deep ties with Enron that you and Smirky Boy share? Oh, stop already! Like you folks say to those of us who deplore the abomination that is the "Patriot Act" - if you don't have anything to hide, what's your problem? And as they say, the hits just keep on coming. You don't think it matters whether you vote or not? Think again. America must do everything possible to keep this illegal, court appointed administration in check. Our future as well as our foundations depend on it. Consider what's at stake. 1. Donald Rumsfeld is not happy with the information coming from the CIA concerning the "threat" that is supposed to be Iraq. See, it appears that Bush II wants American intelligence to find information that backs up the Gang of Four's version of the Iraqi threat. Problem is, they can't - because there is none. The CIA has issued reports stating that Saddam has never been less threatening. Unless we attack him. So what is a pathetic bunch of chicken hawks to do? Why, start their own "Intelligence Agency", of course! That's right, because George Tenet won't come up with what they want in order to "justify" invading Iraq, "Rummy" wants his own Intelligence Agency. You see, they need an intelligence agency that won't show how bad George W. lies when he makes speeches to America about how dangerous Saddam is to the American people, like he did that infamous Monday night a few weeks ago. 2. Republicans fear fair elections and are already working to cheat and intimidate voters yet again! That's right; the members of the right are already at it. Not satisfied to intimidate voters in Arkansas, it would seem as though there are some nasty little vermin in Florida calling voters to remind them to "remember to cast their absentee vote on November 10th!" Of course, no one would have ever heard about this if the morons hadn't called the head of the Florida Democratic Party. Hey, I said they were vermin - not necessarily bright. And to make matters worse, these callers are saying they are with McBride's gang! As I said - no shame. 3. Violent crime is at its highest in over a decade. Various newspapers reported on October 29, 2002 that America has, once again, begun to lose the war on violent crime. I don't know why this should be a big surprise. Violent crime rose 2.5% from the year 2000 with increases in everything from murder to rape to armed robbery. Well, why the hell not? People have lost hope - again. What, you think Bush the Little gives a fig? Hello? For crying out loud, while America watched 10 people get picked off by a sniper for 3 weeks where was George? Why - campaigning, of course! 4. Consumer confidence is at its lowest since 1993. No surprise there. Seems as though Americans are worried about a declining job market, an invasion of bears on Wall Street and an almost certain, reckless war with Iraq. Between that and Chimpy deciding to cut funding to the SEC - Remember? The guys who are supposed to protect your 401k and go after corrupt CEOs? - not to mention that those singular TV pictures of corporate scum being handcuffed were nothing more than Bush "photo-ops" (you know, something to make you think that Bush was actually serious about corruption), well, it's no wonder confidence is non-existent. But, Saddam is a very bad man. 5. The Bush II administration withheld the fact that North Korea had a nuclear weapons program until AFTER the "Let Bush Be Rambo" vote in Congress! Although the initial reports stated that the Chicken Hawks knew about this 12 days before it was "leaked" to the press ( that's where many in Congress, both Republican and Democrat, first learned about this ), seems as though the big liars in the White House knew as far back as June 2001. They also knew that North Korea was being supplied by Pakistan and we all know how important Pakistan was in the "war" on terrorism. Don't even get me started on 9/11 again. So the liars kept things quiet. 6. The Bush administration is trying to scale back parts of the Clean Air Act just when states are beginning to use it successfully to reduce pollution. We all know that President Pretzel could care less about environmental laws. He proved that during his disastrous tenure as governor of Texas. The energy industry is practically giddy over the possibility of a total Republican Congress after next week so that they might wreak havoc on the environment in their pursuit of profit. 7. Bush II is still in court trying to legalize the "enemy combatant" terminology in order to deny American citizens their legal rights to due process. This one alone should scare the pants off of anybody. In the case before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit concerning Yaser Esam Hamdi, who has been sitting incommunicado in the Navy brig in Norfolk, Virginia, since April, the arguments are being made by the Bush II thugs that by naming an American citizen an "enemy combatant" they can deny rights not only set by the Constitution but by the Geneva Convention. This is nothing less than a gang (of four) rape of the foundations upon which this country was founded. Not to mention, our loss of stature and international respect by the world community at the hands of a petulant political toddler. Although the little brat and his cronies have done nothing more than do their best to scare everybody into supporting his un-American policies of invasion to insure the "safety" of democracy, he's had little time to actually spend defending all of us. Bush and his right wing delinquents have been busy trying to undermine the 2002 election process while raising money for representatives who will do more for Bush than for America. Never before has there been a more critical time to use your right to vote. Never before has there been a more urgent time to use your right to protest and dissent. Never before has there been a direr need to render a dangerous incompetent politically impotent. Never before has a president - or, in this case, someone posing as a president - deserved to be politically castrated more than George W. Bush. It's up to the voters. They need to make a choice. What's more important? The future of America or the future of George W. Bush? That's pretty much what it boils down to. Seems like a pretty easy choice if you ask me.
