-Caveat Lector- I would call it a hypothesis based on anecdotal evidence, rather than fantasy. There is no doubt that more hard evidence is needed, but you have to admit that a study of archeology and history shows that reptiles, gargoyles, dragons, and other 'demons' have been worshiped and have been a significant part of the popular culture worldwide, throughout history, even to this day.
