Half of Britons believe Blair is Bush's lapdog 2002-11-13 20:21:48 Ummahnews 14 November 2002 A new poll has revealed almost half the British public see Tony Blair as George W Bush's "lapdog". Only 13% of Britons support a military campaign against Iraq, with 9% opposed, but 76% say they are undecided. One in three of those respondents still undecided about the merits of military action view Bush as a greater threat to world peace than Saddam Hussein. The poll, conducted for a Channel 4 News programme, indicates Bush is Blair's biggest obstacle to winning over public opinion in favour of military action. When given a straight choice between the two leaders, some 32% of the undecided said Mr Bush was the greatest threat to world peace, as against 49% who thought it was Saddam Hussein. The survey also highlighted public fears over taking military action. Some 93% said it would increase the risk of terrorist reprisals, 82% feared a severe economic cost, and 39% thought there could be a long drawn-out war with no clear winner. The split-sample suvey was carried out by US pollster Dr Frank Luntz who recently helped guide President Bush to unprecedented success in the mid-term elections and involved some 3,213 people in the first sample and 2,256 in the second over two successive weeks in October and November. <A HREF="http://www.ctrl.org/";>www.ctrl.org</A> DECLARATION & DISCLAIMER ========== CTRL is a discussion & informational exchange list.
