ISRAEL HAS SOLD AMERICA
THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE

If you had even an inkling that someone was "taking" you and your country, wouldn't you want to know who's doing it, and for how much? Then, wouldn't you want to do something about it?
I would and I did.
There is a riveting, three-part article in the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, (WRMEA), titled: "U.S. Financial Aid to Israel", that ends like this:
"It would be interesting to know how many of those American taxpayers believe they and their families have received as much from the U.S.Treasury as has everyone who has chosen to become a citizen of Israel. But it's a question that will never occur to the American public because, so long as America's mainstream media, Congress, and president maintain their pact of silence, few Americans will ever know the true cost of Israel to U.S. taxpayers."
But more Americans WILL know, thanks to Richard H. Curtiss, Stephen Zunes, and Tom Malthaner, and they will be shocked at what they find out. Even with the limited amount of information they get here.
Professor Zunes, at the University of San Francisco, tells us that between 1974 and 1989 Israel received $16.4 billion in U.S. military loans, and these, like ALL loans to Israel, have been forgiven by Congress. Could that be the reason Israel claims it has never faulted on a loan?
Since 1982, money to Israel has been given in a lump sum, requiring the U.S. government to borrow from future revenues. Moreover, Israel even lends this money back to us through U.S. treasury bills and collects the additional interest.
This is only one of Israel's many such U.S. taxpayer rip-offs, with double dipping thrown in.
Correspondent Tom Malthaner reveals that for the fiscal year ending Sept 30, 1997, the U.S. has given Israel $6.72 billion. This doesn't include loan guarantees and annual compound interest, totaling another $3 billion that the U.S. pays on money we BORROW to give to Israel. Neither does it include IRS tax exemptions for money U.S. taxpayers donate to Israeli charities. Add it all up and our special relationship with Israel costs U.S. taxpayers over $10 billion.
Add it up further--since 1949-U.S. taxpayers have picked up the tab for Israel "loans" to the tune of $83.2 billion, plus interest of $49.9 billion, for a grand giveaway to Israel of more than $133 billion! In short, the average Israeli citizen is getting more federal aid from the U.S. than the average American citizen. How's that for charity NOT beginning at home?
Richard H. Curtiss, a retired U.S. foreign service officer, and executive editor of the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, has an especially keen eye for the U.S.- Israel relationship, and has a fine-tuned take on it.
Curtiss squeezes through the money maze to inform us that, although Congress authorizes America's foreign aid total, more than a third of it goes to Israel, a country smaller in area and population than Hong Kong. But this financial anomaly has never been mentioned in the Senate or the House.
Probably the members of Congress who might know the total amount of money going to Israel each year are those few committee members who tally it up. Most of whom are Jewish, and most of whom have taken big campaign contributions from Israel's various lobbies, including the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), with its $15 million budget, and l50 employees; and the conspiratorial Anti-Defamation League with its $45 million budget .
But of all the monetary convolutions perpetrated on the strapped U.S. taxpayer, by far the most damnable is the fact that so long as we run a deficit budget each year, every dollar of aid we give to Israel has to be raised through U.S. borrowing.
That's a red flag.
Break the bank and you've broken the country.
If we don't quit buying the Brooklyn Bridge from Israel, and soon, the next red flag may be too late.
