i got into something, so i moved my comment to the bottom. i want to stay out
of Nina's way here(-:

Nina wrote: The best TV station ever: 9415 on DishNet Satellite. I watch it
a lot and don't pollute my mind with corporate news. A fellow student shared
how fearful she feels, and that she watches the news on CNN all the time so
she knows what's going on. I gently suggested that the owners of the large
mass media outlets have a vested interest in the populace being fearful and
therefore malleable. "The more fearful the people the more malleable they
are."

SPECIAL FSTV Mobile-Eyes Reminder for November 23th - November 24th, 2002

On November 23-24, FSTV will launch Mobile-Eyes Against Military
Interventions, the fourth campaign in our explosive new Mobile-Eyes series,
showcasing the work of anti-war activists and filmmakers, and showing how
people have resisted US-led war drives like the one Washington is currently
orchestrating against Iraq. Free Speech TV will air interviews and
documentaries about the rise of the global US military presence, and mobilize
YOU to pledge your resistance to US interventions through petitions, letters,
teach-ins, demonstrations and other non-violent direct actions. And stay
tuned to Mobile-Eyes against Military Interventions for coverage of the
recent anti-war demonstrations that have erupted all over the world! You
won't see these kinds of programs on any other TV network, so tune in and
mobilize! __________ CONTENTS:

______________________________________________ 2. THIS WEEKEND'S PRIME TIME
HIGHLIGHTS ON FSTV:

Be sure to watch Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman, live on weekdays at 9am,
and repeated at 7pm and midnight (Eastern time).

This coming weekend, stay tuned to Mobile-Eyes against Military Interventions
:

Mobile-Eyes Against Military Interventions will present 48 hours of
programming that shines a spotlight on the growing opposition to war on Iraq
with footage from 15 demonstrations from around the world, in-depth analysis
of US foreign policy and the “War on Terrorism,” and documentaries on
mass resistance from Vietnam to the Persian Gulf Wars. A highlight of the
weekend will be a Roundtable discussion moderated by Working Assets Radio
host and journalist Laura Flanders entitled, The Bush Doctrine: Strategy for
Security or Blueprint for Empire? Featured panelists are: Saskia Sassen,
University of Chicago Professor of Sociology and author of The Global City;
William Hartung, author and Director of the World Policy Institute’s Arms
Trade Project; and Rahul Mahajan, anti-war activist, author of The New
Crusade and 2002 Texas Green Party gubernatorial candidate.

Featured documentaries will deconstruct the Bush Doctrine on Homeland
Security; present a searing critique of US foreign policy since WWII;
showcase a speech by David Barsamian, author, producer and host of
Alternative Radio which draws parallels between Nazi war propaganda and the
Bush war propaganda. We’ll also have footage from teach-ins at CUNY (City
University, NY) that examine arguments on why entering into a war with Iraq
will not benefit the American people or help end the “War on Terrorism.”

And, as always in our Mobile-Eyes programs, in conjunction with our partner
organizations this month, the American Friends Service Committee, ANSWER (Act
Now to Stop War and End Racism), Not In Our Name, and the National Network to
End the War on Iraq, we will present steps viewers can take to pledge their
resistance to US military interventions in a variety of ways through
petitions, letters, teach-ins and demonstrations.

The Mobile-Eyes programs are organized into three 2-hour blocks each day,
which run continuously throughout the 48-hour period. Below you will find
descriptions of all of Saturday's Block 1 programs, starting at 8am, 2pm and
8pm (EST). Don't worry if you miss anything -all of the programs will be
aired again in the coming weeks!

Saturday: Block 1

Demo 1 (6 minutes) Footage from the anti-war demonstration in Washington DC,
October 26, 2002

Good vs. Evil: Bush’s Theology of War (28 minutes) The following piece is a
deconstruction of the Bush Doctrine on Homeland Security. The piece consists
of speakers systematically picking apart the Bush Doctrine. An original FSTV
Production.

Demo 2 (9 minutes) Anti-war demonstration-San Francisco October 26, 2002

Not In Our Name Evening of Cultural Resistance (60 minutes) The Evening of
Cultural Resistance was organized in Copper Union New York on October 3,
2002. The event features a diverse cross-section of poets, musicians, and
artists. You could even say that it resembled an anti- war variety show,
portraying people from all walks of life protesting Bush's war plan.

Demo 3 (6 minutes) Anti-war demonstration-Tralfagar Square, London -
September 28th, 2002 Footage of an enormous protest in London where over
400,000 (a largely under reported number) stormed the streets in opposition
to the impending US move toward war on Iraq.

______________________ 3. FSTV ACTION ALERT!:

Organize a “teach-in” in your school, community center, or place of
worship!

Educate &activate! Teach-ins provide a valuable opportunity to attract new
people and build anti-war coalitions. Be sure to discuss specific non-
violent solutions to international conflict and strategize on how best to
rally your community around the peace movement.

The American Friends Service Committee [<A
HREF="http://www.afsc.org/";>www.afsc.org</A>], committed to the principles of
social justice and non-violence, is an excellent source of information that
can be used in teach-ins. Check out their Iraq Resource Guide [<A
HREF="http://www.afsc.org/iraq/guide/Default.shtm";>http://www.afsc.org
/iraq/guide/Default.shtm</A>] with “downloadable” literature, an Iraq
speakers list, activist toolkits and many other valuable materials and links.

Global Exchange [<A
HREF="http://www.globalexchange.org/";>www.globalexchange.org</A>] is another
human-rights organization that is dedicated to promoting environmental,
political and social justice. Their website features a down-loadable booklet
called Get Organized! A How-to Guide That Shows What You Can Do Within Your
Community to Change the World [<A
HREF="http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/iraq/toolkit.pdf";>
www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/iraq/toolkit.pdf</A>]. The title pretty much
says it all. This valuable toolkit includes a special section to walk you
through the steps of organizing a teach-in. It’s easy!

And don’t forget to use the vast resources posted here at <A
HREF="http://www.freespeech.org/";>www.freespeech.org</A>, featuring articles,
links and a large collection of audio and video content.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i guess it's sort of an antidote. certainly it can neutralize their lies, but
in the way i'm thinking, it's more of an alternative. a real antidote would
be turning it off and walking away into nature and/or into each our natures
by plunging into our direct experience as one does in insight meditation (as
opposed to tranquility meditation. tho there is a place for that too, of
course) or similar, and doing so in a gentle way, without forcing, but
staying at it for increasing lengths, and healthier activities for periods of
dispersion.~  Nick
