just yesterday I did some significant updates on my FreeBSD-machine, and
upgraded to the latest version of JabRef just to give it a try. I'd had
problems with this before, and had locked version 2.10,1 of JabRef as a
consequence. After upgrading to JabRef 3.4,1 and Openjdk8, all the
trouble reappeared, and I had to downgrade the application manually.
The symptoms are very similar to what you describe, although I've never
noticed the input being redirected to another window, and it seems to
have to do with the combination of versions of both, JabRef _and_ the JRE.
Maybe we're just looking at two aspects of the same thing here?
