Eh yes, you're absolutely right :) Somehow I thought that if m4 was
invoked with 2 filenames it would try to write the output to the second.
I don't know how I came to that conclusion, other than that it was
late...

Indeed, that would be better. My manpage didn't even mention -s so I was
assuming it was for overcoming that problem I believed to exist.
